We had the good fortune of connecting with Markkel “Kelz” Mungin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Markkel “Kelz”, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I initially just wanted a place to produce my own show and once we started going my thought process was to provide a space for others that l was looking for myself; clean, professional, out of the box, and the best!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m most proud and excited about the vibes at Hits 92.3 ATL. All of the talent gets along, supports each other, and the station. It’s just an amazing feeling for anyone who enters the station.

I got to where l am now by networking and being in the right places. To start l got my break in the entertainment industry as a wardrobe stylist turned model. While modeling l was being interviewed, asked to be a guest host, and landed my first co-host position on an internet radio show for a year before seeking my own.

It wasn’t easy but it wasn’t extremely hard either. There are highs and lows, challenges and wins. Overcoming challenges is really a personality trait. I can let it take over and mess up my day or focus on the solution.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way are that everyone has their own goals and paths to success, people will come and go, trust the people who offer a hand, know everything will not be a walk in the park, and not everyone is for the team while others are for self.

I would like the world to know that my strategy is to move and build in great integrity, reputation, skill, and honesty. My brand is a mirror to that including professionalism and fun!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting of course l would bring her to the radio station to show her the station, event space, and photography studio, we’d then go to my favorite restaurant Milk & Honey on Cascade, go shopping in Atlantic Station, and whatever else she would want to do.

I’m a Georgia native so l don’t really get excited about what others get excited about. Lol

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my HITS FAMILY. They have really been the backbone to this business. Their encouraging words, willingness to step in or step up and assist where they see a need, and really just taking their brands seriously has been a major part of the success of Hits 92.3 ATL.
