We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Vayntraub and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My passion for food blogging comes from childhood memories that I hold dear as well as love for the food industry. Around 10 years of age I worked at my Grandfathers candy shop. He had me doing all the displays in the window as well as stock the shelves. The memories of seeing all new candy innovations always excited me and left a soft feeling in my heart. As I got older I worked for a supermarket as a receiving manager. I was in charge of all new innovations from food companies coming in the building. That drove my passion to share with others on social media platforms. I feel like food is a common bond between everyone and it brings joy to see and talk about new innovations. It makes me happy to have a nationwide family over the internet to share my excitement with.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It wasn’t easy at all. My main expertise comes from my inside connections in the food world. It took me several years to gain my contacts. Several connections and relationships were built along the way, but it was definitely a slow build. I also suffered from not gaining any friction on my accounts for a very long time. It all ended when publications started to use my info as a known source. Now I’m well known in the food companies and the community for the intel I know. I basically know things even before employees. ha!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a homebody, but movies, TV and of course food is my thing. I guess we’d start off by hitting up the big 14th street movie theater in NY and load up on lots of snacks and watch a movie. After that we could take a tour around Brooklyn for the best pizza to ever exist, one being L&B Spumoni Gardens, can’t forget about the best chicken fingers and roast beef at Brennon and Carr and Roll-N-Roaster in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Food blogging was around before I got started. My inspiration came from many pages that were already developed. I looked up to blogs like Junkbanter and Poweredbyicecream. The writing development came from reading Junkbanter’s reviews, the need to be behind a camera that really gave me confidence was Poweredbyicecream.
