We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Grignon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The people who work here are what make this work hands down. It’s not some magic methodology that makes services organizations successful, it’s the people delivering the services.

The consultants and team leads at Kognitiv bring a tenacity to work that other Workday partners can’t dream of matching. I think most Kognitiv employees live with a chip on their shoulders, I know I do, and it’s hard to compete with people who have something to prove. No one has given us a chance from day one, not an investor, not other Workday partners, and certainly not Workday themselves. We are the outsiders, pirates banished to the ‘grey area’ of a VERY closed ecosystem. That provides more motivation than any other Partner can compete with. Our people can’t be matched, pound for pound it’s not even close.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My partner Luke and I built Kognitiv from the ground up to serve our client’s unique needs—not beholden to investors like many other companies are in today’s day and age. Our billing method is a pay-as-you-go type setup, which means that our next engagement is dependent on our ability to perform on the current one. There aren’t any long-term contracts or minimum spend requirements, we don’t do complicated rate cards. We give the clients the power to invest where they need support. Then, we offer them what they need to streamline their Workday business processes and procedures without costly and confusing consulting services. So, while some may believe that that’s a recipe for failure, it’s actually been our recipe for success. Our team is our greatest asset because we trust that our skilled consultants can give our clients exactly what they need, and they do. So I’d say that is honestly what sets us apart from other service providers in our industry—we’re built on client-centric relationships with a team that’s ready to support in any way they can.
