We had the good fortune of connecting with Marilyn E Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marilyn E, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I am the mother of three amazing adult children – all girls – and parenting each of them required a different method, however there were a few consistencies across the board that made an impact on how there three girls became 3 powerful women. First and foremost was GOD. I raised my children to know who God was to me, and gave them the freedom to seek out who God was to them – although I never stirred them from the God that I serve I did teach them that God reveals Himself to people based on their ability to receive Him. For example, for one child God shows up in the music she plays, for another God shows up on stage when she is acting and for the other God shows up in her ability to love her family unconditionally. Another pillar in my parenting was respecting others for who they are not for who you want them to be – and when you cannot find a cause to respect them remember that you are a human deserving of forgiveness and grace – and so it that person you either; judging, begrudging or lacking compassion towards them. I instilled in my girls the idea that everyone is deserving of forgiveness simply because we are all guilty somewhere to somebody, so to forgive quickly just remember that “YOU are guilty too”. Lastly I allowed my children to dream big, I never put limits on what they could think or ask for.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Please tell us more about your business. I am the CEO and founder of The Pink Pulpit International Convention of Women in Ministry, which is a coaching and consulting business for women ministers, and which also has a training and ordination component for the women who are a part of our membership portal. Essentially we train women preachers how to run successful businesses, while not compromising their faith. We have been in business since 2016. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. I believe that what sets me and my company apart is that we cater to a group that is often misunderstood and not always accepted and underappreciated within the very community that they serve. Serving and supporting faith based entrepreneurs and business owners is the most amazing venture that I have even taken on. I am proud to be a preaching, teaching, praying, prophesying CEO! How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? I arrived at my current place in the business world purely by failing forward on a daily basis for the past 15 years. Seriously! I have learned from my mistakes more than any of my 3 degrees. I can’t say that it has been hard because I have enjoyed every single level of the journey – I would not trade any of it especially not the failures because they are what expanded my knowledge and processed my wisdom. What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. My most powerful lesson has been that I must stand in my truth – integrity is my compass and I follow it always! I have also learned that marketing does not make you a millionaire, relationships lead you to money – building trust is essential to business. Lastly I will say that doing what you love may may not always yield a profit, but it will give you satisfaction in your soul – so what you love even it you have to do something else to make your money. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story? I build women! I proudly own up the fact that I am gifted and anointed to introduce women to themselves in a way that removes all the blocks that have held them back. My brand story remains the same – I am a woman who loves to God and His people.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
The first place me and my bestie are going is Mary Mac’s Tea Room! It’s one of my favorite ATL spots to eat and chat. The food is amazing and the staff does not disturb you when they see that you are engrossed in good conversation. We would likely hit Lenox Mall and/or The Mall of Georgia for a little walk, talk and shop type of situation. As a certified “music head” I am definitely checking to see if any of my favs or at The Fox Theater or Chastain! I am finding some music somewhere in the city of Atlanta or it’s nearby suburbs. I am not a big sports fan but she is, so depending on the season we’d checkout the the Braves, the Hawks or the GA Bulldogs in action. And just as a reminder of home, we would hit Atlantic Station. We are Jersey Girls and this is the section of the city that is most alive in the way we are accustomed to. Atlanta is the home of people watching – so no matter where we go we are bound to see the most flashy people puttin’ on for their city!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out Captain Misha J. Danzlter – who is my eldest child and my greatest inspiration. Misha has always given 100% of herself to creating a life that would allow her to serve and support others. The girl can sing, I mean sang and she is beautiful, yet she chose to live a life dedicated to helping others. She is a shining part of my story because without her I likely would have remained in state of mind that would not have lead me to the pulpit but to prison. He life, gave the direction I needed to become the influential, poised, powerful, praying women that I am today. Shout out Captain!
