We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariko Takahashi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariko, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The reason I first began my own business endevour was so that I could find an outlet from which I could express my creativity and uniqueness in a way that could benefit others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create original jewelry based off of the Japanese traditional art of origami. The aspect of my project which I could say that I am most proud of is how unique and different my art is within the field of jewelry. I was able to come to where I was today where I am today thrugh overcoming seemingly insurmountable adversities. I pursued my artistic endeavor while still working a traditional job and being bound and limited to the time constants created by it. As well as being a single mother, having to support my two boys. Through this I have learned the importance of balancing different aspects of my life without hurting any one side. I have learned how precious each and every moment and have worked to move make use of every opportunity I have been giving. I want to show others that that should live to the best that they can through my art.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I am traveling with a good friends I usually like to take them to small, low key shops that I like to frequent. If I were to go on a long journey with someone I’d consider a great friend I would like you visit my home country of Japan where I would show them around my favorite spots in the country. I would probably go to my home town where I know all the little local shops and am familiar with the people.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The ones I would like to shout out for allowing me to succeed are my children. My two sons motivate, allowing me to do things I’ve never thought about and giving me the courage to go through each day with diligence.
