We had the good fortune of connecting with Marie-Immaculée Jessica Gbinssey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marie-Immaculée Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
That question would take us to my childhood. I always wanted to be my own boss. I just didn’t know what area I would have launched in. I just knew it would be something related to creativity. Moreover, I have always had an eye and cultivated a passion for originality, organization, style and aesthetic.
I tend to be an introverted individual and it is that trait of my personality that was preventing me from diving into the entrepreneurial world. Until 2018, when friends and family started to encourage me in pursuing my dream. Best advice ever!

Therefore, I decided to start Elucammi Concepts and Design to bring a plus to people’s events. My business belongs to a “almost saturated industry” in which the slightest add-on makes a huge difference. I believe people like to feel unique and cherish memories that are custom made. That’s why I fell in love with a mixture of creativity and authenticity.

What should our readers know about your business?
Elucammi Concepts and Design is a business that evolves in the decoration and event planning industry, with an extension to interior design. On top of my keen eye for aesthetic and details, my background in Finance and management plays a critical role in my business. Indeed, it forces me to always consider the relationship between cost and benefit in order to ensure that my client’s requests matches their needs and budgets. For me, it’s crucial to understand the value of money, as well as the value of the resources in a project.

I am extremely proud of my little journey as a decorator so far. 2018 was just yesterday and I was just starting. I am not where I plan to be yet, but I know I am getting there. Slowly but surely.

And I am excited about what the future has in store for me as an individual and for my little baby “Elucammi Concepts”.

Absolutely not ! It was not easy and it is still not easy. It takes a lot of time, determination, and trust to build a brand. In a constantly changing industry, challenges arise everyday. It is just like jump roping, you have to be ready to embrace a new trend, to accept that each client is different and must be pleased by your service. Being open to learn and improve my skills are also helping me to face challenges.

What I have learned along the way is that hardwork, passion, transparency and respect are important to grow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lol ! You are asking this question to a big “homebody”, but I will try. I would take my visiting friend to my favorite French restaurant Marcel on Friday night. A little afternoon at Ponce City Market 9 miles on Saturday to enjoy the view.
And my homebody personality will scream for help on Sunday, so we will just stay home after Church and enjoy one or two glasses of wine with a meat & cheese plate.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to God first for the gift of my talent, because being creative is a talent. My family: My mom who has passed away last year, she was my best supporter and still is from Heaven. My dad for teaching me that hardwork can change everything. My sister, I couldn’t do anything without her love, presence and support. My brother, for believing in me. And I would give a huge credit to my fiancé and soon to be husband for being my backbone.
Lastly but not least, my friends for always encouraging me.
