We had the good fortune of connecting with Maricela (Mari) Cunningham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maricela (Mari), what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always enjoyed helping people and I wanted to be available for my kids when they needed me. To be able to impact positively within my community and provide quality administrative services with heart.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business started during Covid. I had decided to not continue in the HR career and wanted to do something different. People that knew what I did, started to look for me because they knew I could help them with their unemployment claims at the time. Once I started helping some of them, the idea of doing taxes came up. I decided I wanted to get my certificate as a tax professional and started working from home. After a year, I knew I had enough from my work to open a commercial office. It made me feel secure of being able to have the funds to cover the office expenses from my own work I was already doing, with just the few clients I had at the time. The office expenses was being covered by itself. I did not have to ask for a loan. I decided to register my business back in 2021. Every year my office grows with services offered such as bookkeeping, registering companies, payroll, tax resolution, translations (Spanish/English), notary, and much more. I currently have a full time employee and two part time employees. Since I decided to become an entrepreneur, I’ve taken leadership classes and at the same time networking with different entities and people. My passion is to help others and work within my community as well. I am now an executive board member for Gordon County United Way and an ambassador for Gordon Chamber of Commerce as well. I love serving others wether it is through my work or personally. What I do to help our clients is with purpose, passion and heart. I know each of my customers know and see that from my company. Am grateful for all, knowing it comes from Christ.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to the parks we have here in Calhoun. Enjoy a good walk. Then I would take them out to eat at the fine beautiful restaurants we have here such as, Doros Italian restaurant, Calhoun Coffee company restaurant, La Bodeguita snack shop, which they have delicious Mexican snacks. Finally to Southern Creamery, which they have fresh delicious ice cream. We also have a rock garden that we can take pictures in them.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Christ has been my faithful friend and has never forsaken me. I have become the person that I am because of God. Ever since I came in to the U.S and grew up in this beautiful beloved country, Christ has always blessed me and guided me. My life journey has been filled of wonderful people who God has used to transform my life and feel his presence in my life. I’ve seen God’s power over and over through out my life. I am beyond grateful for his endless love and grace.
