Meet Margarita Hill | Grief Counselor and Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Margarita Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Margarita, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
This business wasn’t my idea it was the calling and purpose God had for me. I lost my mom 19 years ago, and at the time, I didn’t grieve the way I should have. I let the unrealistic expectations of others create a stronghold on my grief. Everyone told me I needed to be strong, so I wore that like a badge of honor.
Then, during the pandemic, my husband deployed, and the world stopped. It was like God used that stillness to pull me out of the spin cycle of grief. He let me know it was time to face the pain I had tried to bury with my mom. So, I sat at the feet of Jesus for six weeks. It was hard—but it was also freeing.
After that, God told me to tell my story and write a book. I said, Nah, God, I’m good. Now, you have to understand I didn’t even like writing papers in college, and He’s over here talking about a book! Thanks, but no thanks. But God can be very convincing, and I ended up writing Grief to Glory: You Don’t Have to Be the Strong One. I thought that was the final piece of my grief journey.
Boy, was I wrong.
Because then God said, now you need to help others the way I helped you. And I was like, Now, God, you doing too much—I ain’t trying to do all that. But he reminded me that there were people who needed everything he had poured into me to help them break free from their own cycles of grief.
So, I created my first group grief counseling program and met 10 beautiful souls who allowed me and God to sit at His feet with them. And let me tell you that is how Grief to Glory LLC. was birthed. God is crazy faithful.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a grief counselor, author, and educator, guiding people through loss and toward healing. My work is deeply personal. I don’t just counsel from theory, but from lived experience and my relationship with God.
What sets me apart is my belief that true strength isn’t suppressing pain it’s allowing yourself to feel, process, and heal. My faith-based approach is real, relatable, and free of judgment. I meet people where they are at their point of need and remind them that grief doesn’t have to be a life sentence.
The greatest lesson I’ve learned, is healing takes time, and that’s okay. Surrendering to my pain lead me to my purpose. When God calls you, he equips you, even when you feel unqualified. My mission is to create a space where people can grieve freely and find restoration through faith and community. If he could bring me from grief to glory, He can do the same for anyone willing to take that journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Tucson, Arizona, is home to a rich African American history but hard to notice upon arrival. There are some really vibrant Black-owned businesses, and cultural experiences that celebrate resilience and creativity. We would start at the African American Museum of Southern Arizona, which preserves the untold stories of Black pioneers, followed by a stop at the historic Dunbar Pavilion, a hub for arts, culture, and community events. These places provide a landscape of joy.
We would definitely have to savor authentic Caribbean food from Janet and Ray’s Caribbean Restaurant and indulge in the best wings in town at ATL Wings. We would venture to Pure Locust Scents an African American women owned business with amazing fragrances. There is an amazing museum called Blue Lotus Artists, that highlight African American creatives. I am all about food so showcase our food scenes we would go to Chef Brian’s comfort kitchen and Mr. K’s Original BBQ because I am a foodie at heart.
We could take a drive up to Mt. Lemmon and enjoy a hike and amazing scenery that it has to offer.
Wrap up our journey with a soulful dessert l at Sydney’s Sweet Shoppe and a moment of reflection at one of Tucson’s scenic parks.
Hush Social Club and downtown offers a vast variety for us to explore the nightlife.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
