We had the good fortune of connecting with Mardia Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mardia, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson that I have learned through my business is that patience is key. People always expect to start a business and start making money immediately but that’s not the case. To truly build a brand you must have patience and know that all the hours and creativity you’re putting in your brand may take time to get the return and attention you would like.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My journey began a little over a year ago and I must say this journey has NOT been easy. A lot of long nights, stressful days, and long work days. Some of the challenges I had to overcome were my own insecurities about failing in this business venture and learning to tap more into my creative side to have the best content possible.
I would want the world to know that I’m a first generation Liberian entrepreneur trying to make sure I can acquire generational wealth for my future family. Also, that I came from a rough background and I am building my this brand from the ground up, no investors, no loans, just hard work and reinvesting every penny I make back into my business so I can reach even more people.
As far as my brand, Simply Beauty Co, I would want them to know:

Our brand aims to compliment the lifestyle, wellness, and beauty culture of our customers. Simply Beauty Co.—From Your Skin to Your Soul
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am really big on supporting black brands, restaurants etc.
Some places that we would visit would be Victory which is a black soul food restaurant in Midtown. I’m West African so we would definitely have to hit up Sheri Restaurant in Miami Gardens, it’s a west African restaurant and their food is amazing.
We would also have to go to Fort Lauderdale beach and spend the day in the sand and clear water.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I really dedicate all my support and encouragement to my mom, sister, brother, and my best friend group. They’ve always been so supportive of my business venture. They were the first ones to repost about my business, purchase from my business, and refer people. They always give me words of encouragement when I may feel down and they honestly are the reason I haven’t given up.
