We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Kole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
I was in a band years ago that got signed to Universal Records. The dream right? Wrong. We met some of the most horrible people during this period of my life but also made some great memories touring. The business side ruined everything for me so I walked away to start a clothing company. All that time, songs were still being created in my mind and one day I pulled out my acoustic guitar. Songs I had no idea what they were starting coming out and my wife asked if they were mine. I said I think so. I began writing and singing again. Not to be rich and famous this time but songs for God… songs for my family. It felt good to create again without someone judging if they thought the song was a “hit” or not.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I went from being in a rock band that was angry at the world to now using my talents to praise God. Crazy how that happens. My style now is more of a pop rock sound compared to the punk rock I did before. My friends who knew the punk me, hear the new music and tell me I can really sing. LOL! I guess I mainly screamed in my other band? I want people to be inspired with the new Marcus Kole music. Spread love and put others first. I guess it would be considered “Christian” music but I don’t like that label because I don’t sing about the typical “they hung him to a tree” style others do. I actually want people to listen with an open mind and not put a label on it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love being in recording studios. I have recorded in the big expensive ones in Atlanta to friends basement setups. I actually prefer the smaller studios. I think because the big ones remind me of the Universal days and that corporate feeling.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife. She saved me. I was just going through the motions of life before meeting her. I don’t know if I would have gotten back into music if not for her. She has been a big supporter of my music. In getting back into Atlanta studios, I met amazing musicians and producers. There is so much talent in the Atlanta area and I like they way people network.
