We had the good fortune of connecting with Mara Panton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mara, how does your business help the community?
My business targets women of color. As a woman of African descent, I take pride in influencing other women to be their best selves and to be most confident. My goal in my business and brand is to always positively influence young women and girls to know that they can be themselves through fashion, especially in the work place as well as enjoy luxury as a woman of color, unapologetically.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In my career, I am a teacher! Aside from creating content, I believe teaching is what GOD has truly called me to do for a period of time. As an educator, I go the extra mile with my students. They are truly like my children. I feel like I am their mom at school as I am their protector for 7 hours a day. After I graduated from undergrad, I became a social worker. While being a social worker, I decided to go back to school full time to receive my masters degree in education. It was hard working full time and going to school full time, but I did it. I graduated with my masters degree in under two years.

Later, I started in education. My first year teaching was HARD! That transition from social worker to teacher was a complete headache and I wanted to give up. I overcame my challenges by accepting help from other teachers and constantly praying. I want the world to know that no matter what, never give up on anything you start! Always finish, always keep pushing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Day 1: I currently reside in the Washington, D.C. area! First stop is let’s go to the African American Museum in NorthWest, Washington, D.C. This museum is filled with historic African American history that dates all the way back to slavery and not to mention that I have amazing kitchen downstairs from Creole cuisine to down south “soul food”.

Let’s stop by City Center, D.C. and go shopping at my favorite store, ZARA. Also, let’s drop into Louis Vuitton as well. We can end the night by walking around to see the night lights and grabbing a drink in the area, there are plenty of bars and restaurants around!

Day 2:
Let’s wake up early and get in a quick 30 minute exercise! We’re going on a walk on the Woodrow Wilson bridge which takes you from Maryland to Virginia as you overlook Washington, D.C….pretty cool right!

After our workout, we’ll go to Toastique to grab a delicious smoothie and mouth-watering toast!

Later in the evening, let’s head to the MGM Grand Casino for a little fun and a few drinks!

Day 3:
We’re getting up around 11:00 am to visit Kitchen Cray Cafe! They have an amazing brunch and after let’s visit The Navy Yard in D.C. to walk around, enjoy the weather, and feed the birds.

Day 4:
I want breakfast again, lol…..so let’s go to Founding Farmers! The food is amazing and so fresh! I have to grab a bite of their amazing french toast! Afterwards, we’ll head to Tysons Mall to enjoy all the luxury shops!

Later in the evening, we’ll head back to the inner city to go to RPM Italian for dinner and drinks.

Day 5:
Let’s sleep in this morning and order Spizzy on UberEats which is a Black Owned Smoothie spot!

After a restful morning, let’s explore the National Harbor and have drinks at the Gaylord Hotel where the scenery inside the hotel is breaktaking!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to my husband, Kwamaine. I’m a newlywed, but my husband and I have been together for almost 5 years! I want to thank him now for believing in me. He is my biggest cheerleader despite the small number of people I currently influence on social media platforms. Kwamaine believes in me know even though I have a long journey ahead of me. He shows pride in what I do and I will forever be grateful for my superman!
