We had the good fortune of connecting with Malkia “Milk” x Kazha “Sizz” Hornsby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Malkia “Milk” x Kazha “Sizz”, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

Being fluid. Our success comes from releasing the need to control every detail while staying true to our vision. God never allowed us to stop moving forward. It’s human nature to stop when road blocks occur, but if we didn’t press on despite the sometimes glacial nature of progress, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

It took us four years to co-create and executive produce Grammy Nominated R&B Crooner J. Holiday’s 4th studio album TIME. We started recording the album in 2018. We were intentional about the direction and identified its challenges. What took TIME, was all the things unforeseen. We were first-time parents suffering great emotional losses with the deaths of several close family members. After being featured in Shoutout Atlanta July 2020, a tornado brought destruction to our newly renovated space after just 6 months, causing us huge financial impact.

Professionally, the show had to go on. We were licensing hundreds of records to television and film, and most recently J. Holiday’s “Ride” was featured on Season One of BET’s “All the Queen’s Men” starring Eva Marcille. We also contributed to Georgia Tech’s EarSketch music coding program, scored our first full-length movie, and garnered our first commercial with Beats. Additionally our collaboration with New Orleans natives, the sister duo Arin and Alexis of The Magic Jones, is currently nominated for Best Children’s Album for the 64th Grammy Awards.

The road to recovery came with a lot of reprioritization. We learned that our faith, family, mental/emotional/physical/financial health mattered most. Situations change and things can easily evolve beyond our control. We survived everything we faced because we were grounded. The next step was continuing to thrive, not just survive. To accomplish this we needed to adjust our thinking to create a new measure of success. Understanding that it’s okay to step away and take your TIME with a project. It’s okay to be intentional and re-evaluate what you’re doing and why you are doing it. It’s okay to come back after a long hiatus. When we created the right amount of space between us and whatever we perceived the goal to be, we were so much healthier and even more successful.

Now, we’ve decided it’s TIME to bring our live music installment SNDBRD back to the city we call home. A true extension of our living room, we combine sound, craft cocktails, and curated menus into a fluid freestyle event — NO REHEARSAL NEEDED.

Our goal was to create a platform that exercised a very necessary creative muscle for musicians. One’s ability to create music on the spot without prior rehearsal is a skill we must never take for granted, and we are truly grateful for every opportunity birthed by creating this experience. It’s exactly like being with us in a recording studio, only live and in front of an audience.

Currently a pop-up, SNDBRD returned March 3, 2022, at ASW Whiskey Distillery featuring J.Holiday. Visit www.Sndbrd.com for the next pop-up location and date.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We spend most of our time taking our four year old Makena to Botanical Gardens, The High Museum and Zoo Atlanta.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?Troop Brand (aka “Troop”). The Atlanta-based rapper and singer, is no stranger to live events and performances. A 2016 songwriting session in Los Angeles gave birth to Troop’s collaboration with AirBnb for Atlanta-based AirBnb concerts. Following its success, Troop capitalized off his knack for event curation by following up with event partnerships with Warner Music, Deep Eddy Vodka, and A3C Music Festival. With his wife Stephanie, Troop has expanded his event collaborations with local brands such as ASW Whiskey Distillery and Monday Night Brewing.
