We had the good fortune of connecting with Malcolm Banks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Malcolm, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was introduced to computers at a very young age from my mother. I used to sit in the back of her Office Administration classes back in the 90’s. I was only six years old taking in computer skills that have advanced me through my life. I have done odd jobs for people over the years. Whether it be clerical, video editing, social media work, creating presentations and many other tasks and I was given an opportunity to do some high paying contract work and it dawned on me that it was time to take it to the next level. I instantly applied for my business license and go to work. Right after that, work began pouring in and it validated my decision to the highest degree. I also felt like I owed it to my mother. She passed back in November of 2008 and I wanted to honor what she taught me and her legacy.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Banks Media Connections is something that was a regular everyday ideal for me but life had not been breathed into it to make it whole. I have done media and clerical work for others for years and it made sense to follow my heart and make it a full business. I got to this place in my business by connecting with my clients on a level where they do not feel like just another customer but like family. The majority of my clients come to me with an issue and they are looking for an answer. A lot of times they are a little frantic or they have a deadline and they do not know the next steps to reach their goals. I sit with them and reassure them that we will be able to bring their ideas to life. When you do that you create a revolving door effect where clients will come to you time and time again because they know you have their best interest at heart. It was not easy to get here. There was a lot of indecisiveness, fear, self doubt and a major lack of faith. The funny thing about it is while all of these thoughts were going on I was still hard at work. I do not know if I am the only one who lives like that in their mind. It is like I can have all the doubt in the world while still performing at the highest ability. The way I was able to overcome it was by seeing the fruits of my labor. Seeing the work that I put in gave me that confidence to say to myself I AM A KING IN THE CASTLE OF BANKS MEDIA CONNECTIONS! Every man and woman should look at themselves and declare that they are the KINGS & QUEENS OF THEIR CASTLES! I want the world to know that Banks Media Connections will always and forever be a beacon of professionalism and positivity. We will always be in position to help the next man or woman realize their dreams and potential. So if you need a document created, a logo made, a presentation put together, a commerical shot, voiceovers for media or even cold calls or mass email and messages for your business or anything you can think of in the clerical and media world we are here to help! I feel that the story of Banks Media Connections is only in Chapter 1 and this book will forever continue to write itself for years and years to come.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being a native of The Port City Mobile, Alabama (The Birthplace of Mardi Gras, yeah that’s right New Orleans yall know it), there are so many places I could take a friend when it comes to things to do and especially places to eat. I would first take them to the Downtown Mobile area with plently of places to eat and drink I would take them to my favorite spot Lit Cigar Lounge to have a drink and pick out a smooth cigar to sit back and relax with. Then we would go up the road to Biloxi, Mississippi and do some gambling at the casinos. If they like the beach there are plenty of beaches within an hour that we could go to and have a fun time in the sand and water. Now for food let me go down the list! Rogers BBQ, Harts Fried Chicken, Mudbugs and The Seafood House for some great seafood! THERE IS SO MUCH SEAFOOD TO EAT AT ANY AND EVERY CORNER YOU TURN! You have Bellingrath Gardens where you can see some of the most beautiful flowers anywhere. Mobile, Alabama has so much to offer to have a fun, safe and relaxing time! I just recently moved back home after living in Montgomery, Alabama for about ten years and I have thoroughly enjoyed being back at home and revisiting old places and learning all of the new places! So if anyone reading this wants to come to Mobile reach out to me! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There so many people who I can shoutout who have truly believed in me all the way from Kevin Garlington, Jeremy Evans, Shannon Lewis, Whitney Moore Paul Husband and many many others. Furthermore, I would be wholeheartedly remissed if I did not give my significant other, my girlfriend and my love Christle Renee Harris a shoutout. A lot of times we get praise and advice from those who meant a lot to us and mean us well. It is even more special when you have someone who is right in your face on a daily basis who sees the long nights and the frustrations and makes sure you eat in the midst of a serious project, who checks on your mental health on a daily basis to keep you in line. Especially that person who sincerely celebrates with you in the big and small victories. She has truly kept me grounded and rooted in my journey with Banks Media Connections and I am forever grateful to her.
