We had the good fortune of connecting with Malaysia Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Malaysia, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote is from Kobe Bryant: “The moment you give up is the moment you let someone else win. Never give up!”

This quote pushed me through some tough stages in my life. There were times in my life where I wanted to give up but I kept persevering through every trial and sought it out to the end. If I gave up, I allowed myself to become a failure. Something I am not!

However, I kept my head above water and stick through the tough times. There is another quote that I live by as well: “If God brings you to it, He will see you through it!” God prepares you for battle and guide you along the way to make sure that you have the full armor of God on to jump over every obstacle and tribulations that was set forth in your life. I made God first in my life and allow Him to guide me through everything.

What I like most about both quotes are that they are very different but similar. They both speak of success as an end goal. In addition, both quotes encourage you to believe in yourself and know that God is there every step of the way. If God is for us, who can be against us. Romans 8:31.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am most proud of how far I have come with my business venture. I started small and have been expanding — and continuing to expand, into a business that is here to last a lifetime. There have been ups and downs with my business. However, it just allowed me to be thankful for those moments as it helped me become more strategic with my business plans. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is to go out and learn as much as you can because learning something new only helps improve your work. Make sure that you invest in the best tools for your camera, as it allows for quality and not quantity. Try to expand your business and work with other people within your field who are willing to help you learn. The help will go a long way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I truly do not have any favorite spots in the city. But if I had to choose, I would take someone out to the Poconos or Philly for a good time. I am such a winter activity person. So I am definitely willing to take them snow-tubing, ice skating, skiing, or snowboarding. These are places I have the most fun at and most of the time I am away traveling doing these activities.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank God, as He has granted me this gift to be able to utilize as a business opportunity. During my journey, God gave me not only the skill, but the tools and people in the photography field to help mentor me. Thank you God for every opportunity that has come my way that allows me to grow my photography business. Subsequently, I would like to thank my clients and my supportive friends and family members for referring me and booking me for any upcoming events.
