We had the good fortune of connecting with Mack2Tone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mack2Tone, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Athens Georgia. Born and raised. My background truly shaped me into the being that I am today. I am a firm believer in roots and development at a young age, so I find it extremely critical to set the standard during the process of youth to ensure a successful life. That is exactly what my father did in raising me. My mother, also did everything she could to install pure authentic love, drive, and passion in my heart, as well as my two brothers, but unfortunately, she passed away when I was 7 years old.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Music was always in my bones I feel. Since I was a kid, I’ve been involved in music, one way or the other. Whether it was singing the choir in church, or taking after my mother and playing the piano, or playing the trumpet in the middle school band, I have always appreciated sound waves and instruments…but I never seen myself becoming a “rapper”. Honestly, I was about 100% sure that I would end up playing basketball professionally, as that was my first love. But after going through college and receiving a surprise mixtape from my brothers “Quarantino Da Gawd” & “Will the Producer”, that they had created from scratch, I was extremely motivated to learn more about the world of hip hop and how to put words together using unique rhyme schemes and punchy lyrics. I made it appoint to focus and give it all the energy I could afford at the time. My life has been a movie so far, so I had so many stories to tell, and being in advanced literature classes helped a lot, as I consider myself a very proficient writer and story-teller. I graduated college with a degree in mass communication, so that also helped a lot. With such a broad scope of jobs that come from that field, I knew that I was more than capable of applying the things that I learned directly to chasing my dream. It was not easy. Marketing was the main focus because I literally had to rebrand myself once I came back to my home town. I no longer wanted to be the “basketball player”. I can rap and hoop! I needed to be seen and addressed as Mack2Tone, the female MC. I began running small promotional campaigns on myself while I teamed up with EDST (everyday success team) in which I was linked through Marcus432, a well known entrepreneur in LA. After learning a bit more about the way the industry works, I dedicated myself to drop a new single for the next 4-6 months at least once every other week before I dropped my very first project. It shows consistency..which I learned is one of the key factors in starting any new business. This allowed me to grab the attention of people all over and keep them anticipating for more. It wasn’t long after that my numbers spiked and it was time to drop the album. The shows began to line up, and more fans began to show me love. But this, is just the beginning. I am no where near where I need to be by the time this is all said and done!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Athens Georgia, the home of the Georgia Bulldogs. It is an exciting city to live in, yet very royal as well. One of my favorite things to do is EAT; therefore, that would be the first thing on the list. Hook N Reel would be the top choice. It’s a new seafood spot that is located off of Atlanta Hwy, just a few miles past my apartment complex. Everything on the menu, in my opinion, is top notch. Second, I’d stop by the liquor store to pick up some tequila. That’s been my go-to every since I retired from drinking Jack Daniels. Shockingly, I’m not too much of a people person, so the spot would be the next stop…& probably the final. Drinks, a little tree, some snacks, and Netflix is my definition of a perfect evening.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my family, first and foremost, for always being there for me and supporting me, as long as it was upstanding and pure. I come from a family of love and for that, alone, I am more than appreciative. Nowadays it is rare to have two loving parents who make sure that you are on the right path. My folks never shaded away from telling me what is right and what is wrong. They never shaded away from discipline, nor praise. I also want to thank a couple of my basketball coaches: Coach Palmer and Coach Johnson. Without these to, life would have just been that much harder for me. Both coaches are very different, but when it comes to HARD WORK and dedication, they were on point.
