Meet Machel Hunt: Relationship Counselor and Psychosexual Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Machel Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Machel, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
The beauty of life makes me happy. I love that each and every day that we are alive, we get to make decisions about who we are and what we want to be. I am happiest when I get to relax, unwind and enjoy all that is around me in nature and at home. I am happy when I get to spend time with my family and friends who hold similar values that I have. I am happy when I wake up in the morning and feel my feet touch the carpet. I am happy when I know that we can create moments of joy out of every single experience. I love food, loving taking long baths, love hiking, love laying out by the pool and traveling.. these are all things that makes me happy because it reminds me of the beauty of life.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve been a therapist for almost 18 years. Throughout my career I’ve worked in various fields, from mental health, public health, sexual health, reproductive health, teens and adolescent care, abortion counseling, domestic violence (working with victims as well as perpetrators), mentorship, schools and higher education, medical and clinical research. I certainly think being able to work across varying fields and having experience in different modalities have helped to set me apart from other clinicians. I started my practice a little under a year ago after leaving a prominent position at Emory University School of Medicine. Since starting my clinical private practice, I’ve been able to carve a niche in the field of mental health and wellness. I’ve appeared on several tv and media outlets. I have several A-list celebrity clients and have been traveling internationally doing what I love as a keynote speaker, trainer and consultant. Having a private practice is incredibly challenging (particularly as a new business during the pandemic), however, I find it exceptionally rewarding that I get to create a space that is safe and engaging for my clients and community partners to find support for emotional health and well-being. My business a full service mental health and emotional well-being practice. I provide counseling and support for couples and well as individuals. I also provide training and development for business and groups. My brand is sexy, it’s the essence of love and life. I certainly encourage everyone to explore counseling and therapy as you will find it can provide amazing benefits, the least of which may be unused potentials. Because I believe in the benefits of therapy, I do provide a sliding scale for clients who may have financial difficulties. I want us to have honest, meaningful, judgement free conversations as a community about mental health, wellness and emotional well-being to bring about a collective consciousness that will enable sustainable change, thats my big dream!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is such an amazing city, there is so much to do and see here. So we’d have to start with all of my favourite culinary delights. For breakfast we would go to Breakfast At Barney’s – black owned, relaxed and chill vibe with an extensive cocktail menu. I also like Poor Calvins for brunch, it’s a great restaurant with a lots of great options on the menu. On Sundays it’s def Ms Icey’s Kitchen – this is the turn up spot with a Caribbean vibe and a live in house DJ. Traffik kitchen is also a great spot of Sunday funday with a day club feel. Another favorite spot for dinner is 26 Thai, the food is incredible and the service is just as good. Culturally, I would recommend, the MLK historical park, also the Trap Musuem. We would also go to atlanta botanical Gardens, the georgia aquarium, Piedmont park. For activities I’d take you hiking up Stone Mountain or at sweet water creek. Nightlife is huge in atlanta, my favorite place to party is at Compound, they always have the best Dj’s and great bottle service. I also love going to Tiki Tango Hideaway Oasis on 13th street, it has a Hawaiian feel and it’s one of those places where you’ll always spot a celebrity or two hanging out and jamming to the groove. Sunday funday In midtown is usually always fun because you never know who you’ll bump into. Another fun thing to do is go to open houses. I love going to these beautiful mansions and getting inspired by the designs and locations.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely, my mum, and my family certainly deserves a shoutout for where I am in life today. I’ve always been conditioned from an early age that I could be whatever I wanted to be in life, that there were no limitations on success as long as I worked hard and stay dedicated. I have my mum and family to thank for that because it was ingrained in me as a child that failure only happens when you stop trying. Throughout my career, I’ve been inspired by so many individuals and groups that it would be too many to mention here. But I have to say I am mostly inspired my my clients, I learn so much from them each and every day, their resilience and commitment to growth is what keeps me wanting to be a better practitioner.
