We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyn Moss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I watched the women in my family take pride in their appearance. This was something my great grandmother instilled in each of her daughters. Those women passed it down to the women in my family. So for me, the notion to make women feel and look beautiful was a seed planted by the legacy I honor.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I worked hard to get to where I am. I studied endlessly to know my craft. I watched, I practiced, I prayed and prayed some more because I wanted my passion for what I do to be the first thing that people could see and feel. There were times I thought about walking away but my love for doing hair would not allow me. I realized if I could do this for free I would and that’s when I knew I was meant to be a hairstylist.

What I’ve learned along the way is that ever stylist has their own unique approach to styling hair. When you find your lane, stay in it and create. If you can share little nuggets along the way to other stylist, do it! As a hairstylist we have so much uniqueness to offer to our clients.

I absolutely love what I do. I get to meet some amazing ladies with beautiful journeys of their own and because of them, I focus on giving a spa experience to my clients. I pamper them with intentional touch to soothe and relax the mind but also giving them an outlet to breathe and take in the moment while making your hair look amazingly beautiful. Yeah, that’s what I want the world to know. I focus on taking care of the most sacred part of you, Your Crown.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Great question! My bestfriend Sandra and I will do a girls weekend in a heartbeat. We would start with a day at the Spa. Afterward we would meet up we the girls and do lunch, Murphy’s, Thrive or the Optimist. I love hanging with the girls with some good food and great conversation. I’m also a church girl, so my Sundays are always for worship (Jackson Memorial or The Enon Church) because God knows I could not do what I do without him.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be the hairstylist I am had it not been for my instructor Lucius Jones and another hairstylist, Randy Glover. I watched them as a little girl when my mother would get her hair done at the school Lucius’s mother owned, Minosa Beauty School. The way they both would study their clients hair and how they handled the hair so delicate. It was just pure artistry to me. They don’t realize how much they empowered me. They helped me see the gifts God had blessed me to use. They ignited the artistry of creating beauty for others. Words could never express my gratitude.
