We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorraine Lai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lorraine, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor behind my success as an artist is to not limit myself or box myself in to a specific media. I enjoy exploring different mediums and I think that keeps my ideas and work fresh, it is also a great way to overcome the “dreaded artist’s block”. Not only do I use various mediums, but I also dabble in other creative outlets and incorporate them in to my art as well; namely, writing and photography.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Working on an ambulance answering emergency calls can take it’s toll physically and mentally. I was very fortunate to have incredible partners and that made all the difference in the world. I also had my creative outlet which I think has helped keep me grounded and helped me stave off any personal or professional demons. I also had my aerial dance friends at The Sky Gym to help me release energy and to train my focus. I think my art is a mix of everything I’ve ever done, and also the things I’ve attempted to do. It’s a process that is such a part of daily living and experiences that it is almost like the air I breathe. I am always looking for was to express and share creativity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think a hike up Kennesaw Mountain with a light (self-brought) picnic would be great – the view is spectacular The High Museum
Whole World Theatre would be a great show to go and see, after a lovely dinner at Tuk Tuk Food Loft
In Marietta, on the square, all the art galleries are lovely, as well as so many choices of food.
The Cuban Diner in Marietta would be a must – their mojitos are fantastic and the food (and flan) are even better!
Canton Cooks I and II in Sandy Springs serves up delicious and authentic Cantonese food, I would recommend their wonton noodle soup, or the steamed pork with salted egg if you want really authentic food.
Cool Beans Coffee on Marietta Square would be great for a coffee; and the pastries at Douceur de France are so very good

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I couldn’t do this without the support of my incredible fiance, Donovan, and best friend, Shirleen. There are also so many other artist friends who have guided and encouraged me: Penny Treese, Tanya Poole, Colette Thomas, and Stephany Glassing.
