We had the good fortune of connecting with Loretta Wilkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Loretta, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Truth, there wasn’t a thought process. I was out feeding the homeless under the bridge on Pryor St. downtown, where it was called tent city at the time. And I didn’t have enough food for everyone. It was overwhelming, to say the least. I felt bad because I didn’t have enough. I came home, hurt and a little angry because one fussed at me, for not having enough. And I was thinking the nerve of her, really. But it bother me and I prayed and in my spirit I heard God say now is the time to start your non-profit. And of course, I argued no, I am not qualified, no will help me, no one will listen to me. etc. But God, said, ” you are making excuses, as always.” And this isn’t about you, it’s about my will, that what I heard God say, not yours.

So, God and I went back and forth for three days. On December 9, 2020 God won and here we are in 2022 and God is still winning. I just followed His lead and listen to His plan and make the steps He orders me to do. And by His grace everything come together. I am blessed to be the clay and God is the potter.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is simple. I am here to help others make their lives better. I think what sets me apart for others, is my experience in the world of homelessness, drugs, domestic violence and brokenness. You see I am relate to others in a way that someone who’s never been through the same can. I am excited about forgiveness, grace and most of all God’s mercy. You see without it I would not be able to do His will. Getting here wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t hard either. Because it’s all God’s plan. Do I try to come up with my own plan, of course I do. But, before I jump out there and make a mess, God’s comes into my spirit and says, Be Still. I want the world to know that this is all God. I am just an instrument in the whole scene of this journey and my brand is His and my story is written already by the most High.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be honest, I haven’t went out lately. I would cook at home and probably just do something like play cards or just sit around talking and I am not a go out person.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Since I started this journey in December 2020 I would like to first give honor to God, who is the head of my life. My significant other, Oscar Harper, who puts up with all my good days and bad. Thank you, my grandson Joshua Clark, my sister Dorothy Smith, Kenneth my brother. Joyce and Fran for going shopping with me and wrapping shoe boxes, they were here visiting and jumped right in with me without a questions. Joyce for her donations. Volunteers who came at the drop of a hat and was there for our first Christmas giveaway, Katrina and Frank Flucas and Kenya, Tiffany Cannon, Ms. Dollar, Wy-yante my niece, Nannette and Lloyd and Aaron Rolle, Carlos, and last but never least Hailey. There are others who participated in other ways and it too many to name. But, I did not do this alone and to this day they are still a large part of Our Loving Hearts Inc. There the above names and Ms. Glenda Washington, Gwen Harris, Charlie Green and London, Santrell Green,
