We had the good fortune of connecting with London Elixir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi London, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been into music. So, I’ve known I wanted to do music production full time since I was in high school. However, I got a full ride to The Ohio State University and they did not offer music production as major. I didn’t want to pass up a free education so I ended up getting my degree in Computer Science & Engineering. I then began working in that field while funding my music passion to build up my business. Starting my own music production business was always the plan – I just had to take a different route which allowed me to be financial responsible and get a free education.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from other producers is that I not only make beats for artists to lease/purchase exclusively – I also create my own music where I hand select artists and pitch the songs for sync licensing opportunities. I am most proud about the success I’ve been able to achieve in sync because a win for me equals a win for the artists I work with. I’m able to get them paid as well as myself. Getting into sync was not easy. It took years and I’m still actively researching and trying make more connections for more placements. Overcoming the challenges in sync requires patience, resilience and dedication. It’s like playing the lotto every time I submit a record. I’m learning to just keep working and know that the pay off is inevitable as long as I continue to put in the work.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely want to hit Jeju ! It’s such a relaxing spa. I’d take them to little five points forsure. Love the vibes in that area. We would eat Tacos at this spot in Riverdale. They are sooooo good! We’d have to go to Las Brasas for the best Peruvian food. I’d take them to American deli for wings just because. Oh and we’d have to get lamb chops from Nouveau.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are soooo many people to shout out!! Let’s start with my mom who has always been my number one supporter and keeps me encouraged throughout this journey! Then there’s Coach Mckinney from my high school who introduced me to Mr. Howe who exposed me to music production when I was in 9th grade! I’ve been hooked ever since. I have to shoutout the Recording Connection (RRFC) which paired me with my mentor Joey Gurwin – owner of the first studio I interned with, Oranjudio. From there the list goes on and on. Legacy Pro Studios. Skin and Bonz Project Studio. AVEVO. Mogul Mal. Mattie B. Ogechi. There are so many.
