We had the good fortune of connecting with Lola Ladae and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lola, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
A lot of people know me for always working. I am always into something or planning something. I believe balance is very important. I get overwhelmed a lot and I am still working on work life balance, especially now since the work is my own

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to say that I am more than a singer, I am a creator and artist at best. My work really focuses on self, self awareness, rebellion, spirituality. I am most proud of the leap of faith that I took to get here. I was supposed to be in grad school getting my Masters in Veterinary Sciences but instead I decided to follow MY dreams and I move and encourage people to do that everyday. I got where I am today by staying positive. I fully believe that as long as I put in the time, the REAL work then there’s no way I will fail. Sometimes it’s a breeze…other times I can’t seem to keep my shoulders from my ears, I am so stressed. TO overcome that, sometimes I literally take a break. I tune in with how I am feeling and why I am feeling that way…most times because I am trying to do too much as once. But once I realize that I am not okay…I step back from social media, from hanging out from people and get myself together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Girl, I would take them to the park, skating, pole dancing, out to eat preferably black owned restaurants – APT 4B, Tassili’s or a Caribbean joint in the West end. I love authenticity! So I am taking them to where MY people at! Some of the most fun and exciting places to visit are the open mics and the love music joints. You meet so many talented and humble individuals at these spots. Once you branch out, there’s no turning back…your network doubles every time you go out in Atlanta

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout a lot of people. There has been a few people in my corner and really rocking with me..like genuine people – Lisa Parker, Joel Brown, Hustle, Digga, Sloerise, Donovan, Yohance, Alejandro, Genius Art, Dev11n, Jordan and everyone that has been part of The Basement Unplugged team in anyway.
