We had the good fortune of connecting with Lola B. Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lola B., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In 2009 I began on a journey to find out exactly who Lola B. Morgan was. The one thing I knew I could do well was write, and curating the art of storytelling. Writing became my therapeutic tactic due to childhood traumas I endured at a very young age. These tactics are principles that I’ve steadily used to activate my voice. 10+ years later I continue to encourage others to do the same while promoting the importance of mental health in our local communities. I’ve found out exactly who that loving, bold, and resilient young woman is- Author, Empowerment Speaker, and Therapeutic Arts/Life Coach! Today you can find me teaching children how to develop healthier coping mechanisms through the 5 E’s in order to navigate life effectively including Affirmations and Journaling. These very same sources helped me overcome sexual and physical abuse. It is my mission to reach over 100k children in equipping them with the proper resources and tools to heal from the inside out and that is why I started my business, A Griot’s Corner, LLC. (https://www.agriotscorner.com/) Every day I make it my mission to cultivate Self-Improvement, Inspire, Encourage, and Support global initiatives that align with providing the necessary resources for our communities to thrive properly. I will not stop, as it is my intention that this mission will be led generationally through my bloodline and through fellow community advocacies to support and promote the importance of mental health services.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Becoming an Author was an easy and exciting process because I’ve written for soo long, and had proper guidance to execute my Authroprenuer journey! My book, “The Butterfly & The Bully”, was birthed as an ode to my younger brother who passed away due to gun violence with added antidotes of my life experiences. However, standing in front of strangers and those who have known me for years telling my story and honoring areas of my life that I never spoke about is where the healing came to play. I felt bouts of anxiety from the memories of the bullying, the abuse, and the shame of not feeling worthy. Birthing my business was the greatest thing I’ve experienced. It was one of the first moments where I truly chose myself. Looking back at life, ignited the efforts I utilize today in my programs teaching people to conquer the beauty in their pain and utilizing Therapeutic tactics to overcome their internal struggles with their trauma. My business reflects who I am and the advocacy of mental health awareness. I educate from experience to birth change foundationally for our communities globally and will continue to do so for years on end.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Tampa Bay Area has so much to offer, I would take them to Ruby’s Elixir Cigar bar in DTSP, Armeture Works in Tampa, Clearwater Beach and have some meach needed beach time and then head over to Shepard’s for lunch.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My initial praise must go to GOD and my ancestors who have paved the way for everyone and everything aligning in my life. To my father for teaching me tenacity, and my mother for teaching me the importance of self-development. To the women and men who saw a broken child but nurtured me in ways, my vision didn’t know I needed. To the continuous aftercare programs, and my TRIBE for being present. To Samantha Harris, CEO of ” 1st Book Club Publishing, Inc.” for granting me the vision to publish my very first book which shook my soul. To my great friend and mentor, Christopher King for providing me the platforms to utilize my voice in educating our communities. To Ladonna Butler, and “The Well For Life” for seeing me, authentically and supporting my gifts. To my beautiful family for their continuous grace and love! If I could offer a word of advice for our communities it would be to dig and dig deep. Master who you are divinely, and do not cower away from the things that frighten you. A life of evolvement is a life well spent. Understand when it’s time to rest, shift, and ignite all that is yours in the world. My gift to you would be to understand your intention, and who you will be in this world. Utilize tactics to remind yourself that you are more than enough, every single day, and it will make it easier for the days where you lose faith in where you are going!
