We had the good fortune of connecting with Lock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lock, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I always wanted to inspire. Everything for me at that point in my life was geared towards chasing energy that granted conviction. Also being huge on anime i felt like this was the beginning of my storyline as the protagonist. About how I would inspire the world to inspire others
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m the lil lion that could. I promote “your homies > these celebrities” “take it all back” “ownership of self and surroundings” #itsallaboutprogression is my hashtag. Im a very firm believer in “you can if you will”. Everything’s determined by will power. To me, will-power is the only real power of man. As far as this year goes, I’m extremely excited for this year I have 4 projects ready right now in this 2nd quarter. I’d say as an artist the creation process is the easiest part, everything else is about finding a modem, getting a good routine of procedure with a couple refreshing rotations. That is and still is the biggest challenge for me as an artist. Everything going on around us it’s really hard to just hone in sometimes. I find myself taking things back to home a lot. It’s okay to decide it’s not time yet. Sometimes the most seasoned authors publish but one book. Personably, I’m way more inclined to the incline of my creation over the profitability margin for the potential of inspiring. I want the world to know that we all are ever-changing growing and retracing. Focus on your shot, exactly how you want to pull the trigger, and which gun you want to fire. Just maybe then, you might blow a mind.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sheesh yo, ima keep it a buck. I’m also a skateboarder so I really don’t be into the whole ATL scene I barely know the food spots haha. I can say the dopest spots I’ve been too out here have all been the skateparks and spots around Atl and Georgia. I’m also big on skateboarding so I’m usually catering my pop outs to the Atlanta skate scene. Shoutout Sesame Wop, AntiLanta, ShaugnDuty, Christian Hall, Chill Cruiser, those guys and brands are dope. Definitely visit Arthur Langford and Brook Run skatepark if you’re new to area looking to skate and see a mini demo. Everybody here is damn near pro! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanna start by giving my biggest shoutout to my Uncle, Justin Drummond. He was the one who originally encouraged me to start rapping. He got me a studio in Hampton w/ one of his close friends from college in 2014. That was it and everything for me. I’ll never forget it. Another big shoutout to Mac Miller. He saved my life quite literally with K.I.D.S. I also wanna shoutout Labstrak; an old friend that really took me to the next level. Showed me how/when > what/who.
