We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Maydwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, how do you think about risk?
Sometimes you have to take risks to fulfill your dreams. I had the career of my dreams as a school teacher. I was successful in this position. I won teacher of the year, and I am still in contact with my students, that are now adults with their own school-aged children. I decided to leave teaching, move to Georgia, and pursue a career in filmmaking.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am blessed to come from a family of writers. My family members have won numerous awards for their work. I have several family members who have published books and music. I have always enjoyed writing but never had an outlet for my work. My mother connected me with a filmmaker who recently moved to our hometown and was featured in a local newspaper. Once I connected with Mr. Smith, he gave me a roadmap to producing my first project, a cooking show. From there, I immersed myself in learning all that I could about the film industry. I began networking with people in the rooms where I wanted to be. During this process, I learned the importance of diversifying my talents on a film set, the proper formatting for scriptwriting, and helping others who hope to succeed. When Lisa Maydwell is mentioned, the comments reveal that she is loyal, helps others achieve their dreams, sticks to her word, and is a great person to be around.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My nickname among my friends and family is “Julie the Cruise Director,” the character from the Love Boat series. I typically set the itinerary when we are hanging out together. First, I asked my guest to give me a little notice so I could see what events would be happening during their visit. I would invite my guest to one of my workout classes—either yoga or Twerk and Sweat. Then we would grab a bite at Yard House in Atlantic Station because they have food for carnivores and vegans. I would invite them to shop in the area before listening to live music. I often take guests to filmmaking and networking events. They love the excitement of being around creatives. I would also invite them to Helping Hands, where I volunteer to pack meals for the needy. If any festivals are taking place, we attend those as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Numerous people have cheered me on in whatever I pursue, but my biggest cheerleader is Alicia Maydwell. She is my mother. She supported me when I decided to pursue entrepreneurship as a young girl. My mom attends my film screenings, purchases my books, and shares every momentous account on her social media pages and with her friends. This is why I would like to shoutout my Mama.
