Meet Lisa Borowsky | Real Estate Consultant & NAR Green REALTOR®

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Borowsky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had the entrepreneur’s itch for several years before starting Sustainable Georgia. I believed that business could be leveraged for social impact and environmental sustainability, so it was just a matter of gaining the courage to try something new in the metro Atlanta residential real estate market.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Sustainable Georgia, our mission is to educate and empower buyers and sellers to think about the health, comfort, and energy efficiency of their home. From healthier homes and smarter features to greater efficiency, we believe that making an impact on the local community can happen one home at a time. In terms of the business journey, for anyone who has started a small business, they understand the grit, hard work, and willingness to be in uncomfortable and unknown territory. I was a gritty tennis player growing up, and I was used to working hard to achieve the goals I was passionate about.
What is not always easy for me is stepping into uncomfortable scenarios and unknown territory. That is something that I have had to and continue to work on through prayer and practice. My faith and community keep me grounded, which allows me to walk forward with or without fear. Outside of work, I also practice placing myself in controlled environments, such as public speaking at Toastmasters, or entering a new environment, such as an acting class, to become more comfortable with being uncomfortable. The greatest lesson I have learned along the way is the importance of having purpose in your work and being in alignment with who you really are. As Dr. Seuss, fellow alumnus from Dartmouth College once wrote, “Be who you are…because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the outdoors, so our itinerary would consist of some of the gems that metro Atlanta has to offer for outdoor enthusiasts. We would start our day visiting one of the 300 community gardens or one of the 50 urban farms that call metro Atlanta home. To get some healthy movement, we would either paddle a section of the Chattahoochee River, explore the trails near Sope Creek or Vickery Creek, or climb at Stone Summit Atlanta. For dinner, we would head to a quaint spot, also partnering with local farms, like TBB 122 in Alpharetta. On other days, we would explore some neighborhoods focused on sustainability – high performance, energy efficient, healthy homes with native landscaping. This could include Serenbe, Trillith, or Barrington Place, the first Net Zero Energy community in Georgia located in Downtown Roswell.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
