We had the good fortune of connecting with Linda Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Linda, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My perspective hasn’t changed but the way I apply it has. I value my time a lot more now because it’s the only thing I can’t get back once it’s gone. So, I really prioritize how I spend my time and I treat it with respect. Once I started doing that, it became much easier to give the things and people in my life the attention it/they deserve without distraction. And equally, it allows me to shift gears when I need to, guilt free, because I give things my all with intention and integrity.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a growing Creative Director, Writer and Producer in Advertising (agency) and we work with some of the biggest brands in the world. It’s a very demanding career path but I love it. I tell people, you’re either made for this life or you’re not. There’s no in between. Lots of long days and nights, very rapid pace, intense output with no guarantees your client will even accept the work. It comes with a ton of stress but being able to create stories that impact the way people live and feel is very rewarding.
I worked in the music and entertainment business for a really long time as a journalist and editor, and I’ve worked with some of the culture’s biggest celebrities. My early years really prepared me for where I am now and I take pride in being solid, reliable, I treat everyone with respect no matter who they are, and I do what I say I’m going to do.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is a really fantastic city. So many hidden gems people don’t know about. If you come here and leave feeling underwhelmed, you definitely didn’t hang out with the right people. The Beltline is a must for visitors and locals. I love The James Room, Ladybird Grove, Krog Street Market and of course, walking along the Beltline itself to see the art, graffiti, the sunsets at the skate park…I’d do food and drinks at RockSteady. The owners are from Chicago and it is so beautifully designed with an upstairs lounge that features local and international DJs that play seriously sexy music. Gio’s is also a must for the food and the vibe. The Interlock on the Westside, East Atlanta Village for small street festivals and dive bars. Highland Cigar Bar, Grant Park Social and Fellaship are great lounge spots. We have bike and nature trails, waterfalls, and peaceful scenic places to escape. We have wineries, horse ranches, and ATV parks outside the city limits for rural adventure. I go to Rumpunch Brunch on Sundays at Believe Music Hall which is a Caribbean Day Party with food trucks and visiting international DJs. One Music Fest, Cali Picnic, House in the Park, we have so many concerts and music festivals all year round. There’s just so much to do in Atlanta. I can’t tell you about some of the other secret spots because then they wouldn’t be as exclusive anymore.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think I’d be here forever trying to think of that (lol) so I’ll dedicate my shoutout to my son, Isaiah Robinson and our organization, The Isaiah Robinson Foundation.
