We had the good fortune of connecting with Lilli Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lilli, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
To put it simple, I wanted to be able to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted! I have 2 little girls, and trying to find a job that allows me to work, but also have the understanding that I am a mom, and my kids will come before work, it was hard! I thought, you know, one day I will work for myself, and now I do! I am only 2 months into my business, but I am growing, learning, and if I do say so myself, killing it! I’ve always been one to have my lashes done, and have a spray tan and loved how it made me feel, and absolutely love making other women feel more beautiful in their own skin. I live in a small community so getting to meet all my new clients, getting introduced to other businesses, it’s amazing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a licensed esthetician, which means I am trained in skin, but can practice spray tanning, individual lash extensions, waxing, facials, makeup, brow laminations/tints, lash lift & tints. I have worked in the beauty industry for 6 years, working in makeup, then I went to cosmetology school and worked in a high end salon for about 4 years. I learned what not to do in a business, and I’ve learned a lot of what does work. I’ve worked along some great, inspiring women, who have taught me so much. It wasn’t easy, and having to take breaks because of having kids, it was challenging, but very rewarding to be where I am now!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love St. Augustine! The historic downtown is so beautiful. For Amelia Island, Tortuga Jacks has amazing brunch that is right on the beach! There is a farmers market in downtown Fernandina every Saturday, and the Riverside Arts Market in Downtown Jax, that we would definitely check out! We go to the beach often, and really enjoy Amelia Island State Park. Some of my favorite restaurants are Cantina Louie, Sliders, and Moon River Pizza. There is also a coffee truck that hangs out in the mornings in Callahan, Roasted Roosters Cafe, and the coffee is AMAZING, but definitely be prepared to wait in line if you don’t order ahead! We of course have to go shopping, which St Johns town center is perfect for. Plus, a couple local boutiques, Hazel Pearl Boutique in Fernandina, and Blessed & Branded in Callahan!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Justis. He has always worked so hard to be the only financial supporter in our family, allowing me the time being with our kids. He works in the automotive industry as a painter, and his hours are pretty crazy, but he has always found time to support me in whatever dream I have, and I could never thank him enough for it..
