We had the good fortune of connecting with Lets Rap Podcast and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lets Rap, what inspires you?
Helping our men, our community and, most of the all, reversing the narrative spewed about Black Men for generations. Also being able to use our own discussions to help reverse the trauma, bad decisions, and the everyday mental war that men go through everyday.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are the Let’s Rap Podcast. Let’s Rap Podcast is hosted by Philasophikal and Jay.Ecko. Let’s Rap Podcast is a discussion and roundtable for the everyday man. We’re opening the lines of communication between men so that we can help each other grow to a level of healthy masculinity. We look to help our man to improving decision-making, relationships, and overall life. Every week, me and Jay would have these long conversations about life, social issues, music and anime. Our conversations always ended up going back to how men weren’t talking to each other about REAL issues enough. We realized that a both of us experience the same problems that a lot of men do, but never seem to share how we deal with them. So we came to the conclusion that we needed to get this conversation out into the public, and that’s when the Let’s Rap Podcast was born. In short, Let’s Rap Podcast is for men who want to change the course of their life and have a place to be open—in relationships, career, influence, confidence, and power.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man great question, we are based in the DMV Area (Northern Virginia), there’s so much here to do. One of our favorite steak and cheese spots is Manny & Olgas. Another popular spot to listen to poetry and chill spots are Speakeasies. You got the National Harbor in Maryland and newly renovated Wharf in Washington DC. For a good show you got the Kennedy Center. There’s always something going on at the Capital One Arena (sports, music and etc). There are a plethora of museums full of diversity and culture. For outdoors, you also have a bunch of hiking and trails, to name a few things to do and check out.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To our success I want to first give the utmost honor to God because this has truly helped our mental, physical and emotional journey in life. Just being able to bless others with our story and hopefully being an influence for someone that may need that. Second, I want to thank my wife because she is my solid rock that has kept me grounded and encouraged, along with the support she has given to help start this podcast. Next, I want to thank my cohost. We have been the best of friends for a long time and now the conversations that we have and are finally sharing with the world have helped our friendship grow even more. I also want to thank Jaime Woods for believing in us and being our first guest and giving us the confidence to keep going. I want to thank the IamShatoria brand and organization as she gave us the platform to do our show live and in person in front of an audience. I want to thank the countless guests (Sealz the Man, Mr. Locario, Duane Bumpass, and Javi Osei, to name a few) for their time and effort as guests on our show when we were no one. I want to thank our listeners as we wouldn’t be anywhere without you guys, we love and appreciate everyone. I want to thank our engineer Damien for his amazing work for our podcast and making us look semi-competent when we were just figuring things out. Thank you all and thank you for your continued support.
