We had the good fortune of connecting with Leron Gaskins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leron, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind me starting Broken Traditions was to become a voice for people who felt a burden from traditions that are tied to their culture. Me personally I speak about Traditions within black culture that is toxic that we need to break away from. But the brand is for anyone that wants to break away from toxic traditions.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My creative art process to create content comes from my unique prospective on social issues. I know that my content had to have the look and sound that can compete with any content creator that is online.

It was difficult to find my flow and lane in an online space where there is so much content. At the beginning I was chasing algorithm and trying to go viral. But then something clicked when I realized it’s not about going viral, it’s about impact, building community and creating thought-provoking content that will continue to have conversations online as well offline.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would take them to one of my favorite restaurants near the airport The Breakfast Boys. This is one of the rare breakfast places in metro Atlanta that is family friendly and have great breakfast options for all dietary restrictions. Next we can see historical areas in Atlanta to give a sense of what sacrifices that was made by historical black figures who faught for our rights.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out goes to my son Jamari. Jamari goes by Jamari Cashout and he is the head of Cashout Ent. Him and I started our brands around the same time and seeing him staring to live out his passion and dreams at the age of 20 years old, is not only inspiring but it’s a testament to how he was raised.
