We had the good fortune of connecting with Lena Maxfield Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lena, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Women inspire me, particularly my mother, grandmother, and other influential women in my life. Both my coffee and cosmetics companies are centered around women’s empowerment. I aim to create brands that promote confidence, self-care investment, and the importance of taking breaks.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I often say that I don’t have a niche, which is why my business ventures span from beauty to coffee. What fills me with pride is not just the profits, but the profound impact these businesses have on lives by encouraging women to prioritize self-care and take time for themselves. I firmly believe in the principle of “look good, feel good,” and nothing makes me prouder than uplifting women and mothers through my initiatives.
One of my recent projects, Coffee Connection, is a networking group where women sip, share, and succeed. This venture is a testament to my passion for empowering women and has been incredibly fulfilling.
I took a significant step by taking my company global and launching in several retailers, achieving this milestone within a year of relaunching. However, the process was fraught with challenges and obstacles that continue to this day. My perseverance and self-motivation keep me going—I refuse to give up on a project that benefits everyone.
The key lessons I’ve learned are the importance of being adaptable, the value of starting over, and the necessity of learning and growing along the way. It’s essential not to be too hard on yourself, to learn from your mistakes, and to celebrate your victories.
My journey is unique because I started from scratch, balancing roles as a wife, a mom of five, and a full-time professional. I’m currently finishing a series of children’s books, with my debut, “Kimberly’s Crown,” chronicling the life of a girl growing into a woman who overcomes trials and trauma. Through this narrative, I want to inspire women to believe that they can achieve everything they aspire to. My business embodies this message, aiming to empower women at every stage of their lives.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My son adores Buckhead, and I’m quite fond of the area as well. We enjoy sipping and shopping both in Buckhead and Sandy Springs. I have a special place in my heart for the peach cobbler on Peachtree Road. We should also drive by Tyler Perry Studios and cap off our day with visits to the aquarium and Coca-Cola.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My businesses are deeply inspired by the influential women in my life, starting with my mother and sister. Each of my business ventures is rooted in the principles of women’s empowerment and self-love. I am committed to creating opportunities that uplift and inspire women to embrace their strength, cultivate self-respect, and foster an environment where they can thrive independently and confidently. These values are the cornerstone of all my entrepreneurial efforts, aiming to make a meaningful impact in the lives of women.
