We had the good fortune of connecting with Leanna Gabourel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leanna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was the onset of the pandemic that brought on the beginnings of Sweet Sugar. Going from working consistently to four walls with everyone home made us get creative. As former Johnson & Wales students, my husband and I started showing our daughters cooking and baking techniques and we started having bake-offs to focus everyone’s energy and stave off boredom. While searching for recipe ideas that were age appropriate, I came across a website about cottage food businesses. The rest is sweet history.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sweet Sugar brings goodness and joy to all celebrations and even the normal Tuesday. All of my treats are made to order and I am so proud of bringing the freshest desserts to my friends and neighbors, using my baking skills and the very best food safety practices. I have tested, retested, and elevated my recipes over the years to give my people the very best dessert I can give. This journey has been a learning experience since my background isn’t in business or social media, but I have learned to reach out to my community for guidance. It truly takes a village and ours here in Woodstock is spectacular. With every bite, I want to deliver a feeling of home, the place you go when you crave warmth, consistency, and love, made just for you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love going out to try new places and often spend evenings restaurant hopping. Having a wonderful chef for a husband makes going out an adventure for the tastebuds!
Whenever our family has breakfast or brunch, we choose A&M Kitchen in Woodstock for the most flavorful and consistent food I have had the pleasure of having. Their skillets are to die for and the service is always impeccable.
Mondo Italian Kitchen in Milton has amazing food and ambiance, Pizza is great and the eggplant stack is a MUST!
We almost always get tucked in by the sinful coffee and cheesecakes at Intermezzo in Atlanta or Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream in Alpharetta.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
