We had the good fortune of connecting with Le”andra (elle) Dove and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Le”Andra (Elle), alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I want so deeply for success to be more than monetary for me so I’m in the process learning what success is for me.

Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
Thats it, that’s the definition? So why has it been so hard for me and many others to define and apply it personally?

Honestly it feels heavy because it has so many moving pieces. Family wise I would say I’m successful. I have always wanted a family of my own and I have that, but career wise I am still searching for what that looks like for me as an entrepreneur when I’m not getting a constant pat on the back, and I don’t have a big check coming in every month. What I am coming to understand is that just like life, it has layers.

So how would I define success? I don’t know, but right now I think it is finding enjoyment in the journey, celebrating the wins and learning from the losses. It is also having a community of people who support you and challenge you to provoke growth.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I would love to share more about what I do. I am a multihyphenate creative. The business most are familiar with is my plus size clothing brand Lorenza James. Since creating that brand, I have launched a content media company called Elle Dove Media.

I am a creative consultant and content creator within Elle Dove Media. I provide social media management, content creation, and coaching. I am also about to launch an internal coaching community with programs to support and assist creators and entrepreneurs build community around their brands. A lot of fun, because I love community, that is definitely what sets me apart, well that and my being big on doing it all with a plan.

As a multihyphenate choosing to work exclusively on one project at a time has been a challenge because once I get an idea, I want to execute it immediately, but wisdom has taught me that every idea deserves my full undivided attention. Deciding to stop splitting my attention between my businesses was sooooo hard but it is proving worth it as more opportunities come.

I make it a point to study other creative entrepreneurs, so I don’t feel discouraged and crazy for trying to do it all. For example, Issa Rae, another multihyphenate said its okay to do more than one thing but build it out before you build/create the next thing. That was all I needed.

I often encourage creatives to do the same, so they have an example of where they are trying to go.

Side note: I also pray A LOT and seek God in everything. Doing something you have never seen before is hard and entrepreneurship can feel isolating. SEEK HIM.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I must admit I’m a bit of a homebody but I do enjoy good company so I would more than likely plan two big things, two chill things, and an outside thing. Then we’re sleeping, or having a game night, making drinks, cooking and talking.

Two big things:
Tea around town: girly and fun
VR game room

Two chill things:
Comedy club
Fabric shop tour and shop
Kid museum
High museum

Outside thing:
Beltline Hop

And we’re shooting content every step of the way lol

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh my goodness yes!!! First, and I mean this with my entire chest, GOD!!! He has given me an amazing and supportive family. He has created divine connections with my peers and continues to pour into this creative brain. Even in the hard moments he is doing his BIG ONE lol, he is so good.

I would also mention my amazing phygital (physical+ digital) community. From the time I started sharing more of my life and my entrepreneurial endeavors they have supported me and often times believed in me more than I did myself. Shout out to all the beautiful sexy humans. I know you’re reading this, heyyyy!!!

Finally, my family and close friends. Words can’t express what y’all mean to me. You experienced my lows up close and have actively pulled me out of some really hard moments. Your constant prayers, hugs, and love are what drive me. Thank you.
