We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah DeVon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The team I’m blessed to work with is absolutely the most important factor behind my success. It’s quite incredible when you are surrounded by people who see your vision and believe in you, doors of opportunity begin to open. The Indie Style TV with Leah DeVon team consists of such talented people who are all successful in their own right. My supervising producer Myki Bobo is a television veteran who has 2 Emmy nominations for her work in television. My guest coordinator Warren McIntosh has a successful celebrity eyewear line with his wife Tiffany. Our show photographer Todd Barron has a thriving photography business, and the show videographer and producer Cymande Coburn is gifted in his craft and is there to make sure I know what to do from the beginning to the end of our live tapings. I have a small team, but their dedication to help build my brand and the brand of the show is admirable. The countless hours that we all spend to create a show that celebrates successful entrepreneurs is simply awesome!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Before Indie Style TV I was an independent recording artist. For 13 years, I had a successful run in that industry. I was invited to perform for the troops overseas. I was selected to be the face of a fine jewelry line. I opened for artist such as Chaka Khan and Earth Wind and Fire. Recorded with hit producers such as the legendary Kashif and Full Force. I got to do so many incredible things as an “indie artist.” Hence, the idea and creation of Indie Style TV with Leah DeVon came into fruition. Indie Style TV with Leah DeVon celebrates independent entrepreneurs across the globe who are highly successful in their industry. What I love about the show is that our guest share insightful tips for up and coming entrepreneurs. ISTV also features chart-topping indie music artists. Initially, the show aired on public access stations in Atlanta, New York, and Chicago. The public access platforms were a wonderful platform to figure out if my show could garner an audience. Fast forward 5 years. Add a wonderful team, the world of streaming, and doors began opening. There were challenges when we were placing our show in so many different cities. The different technical requirements to upload shows are very time consuming for our show producers. I am grateful to now be a partner with a wonderful network (The Rewind Network). This opportunity gives my show a viewing audience through the ROKU platform and Comcast Cable TV in select cities and also The Rewind app. Indie Style is also distributed via The VYRE Network. The show can be seen on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chrome, IOS devices. So, in terms of content distribution, my show can be seen in over 106 countries. The amazing part is that both of these distribution partners found my show and invited me to be a part of their networks. Indie Style TV will continue to grow, and we hope that viewers will find our show with the wonderful streaming and over the air platforms that the show can be viewed on.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love mid-town. I think the restaurants, food, and people are the best part of Atlanta. The side-walk cafes, and shops are wonderful. Two of my my favorite restaurant in Atlanta where I love to take friends who are visiting are Apres-Diem and Brio. Great food fun and more! I have a six year old son so I don’t do too much hanging out these days LOL! We would spend most of our time (of course pre-covid) doing what I love to do which is shop:).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Kelvin has always been supportive of my career endeavors. He should get an award for being that husband that others truly look up to. I’ve had past managers literally ask me how Kelvin is able to be that selfless, supportive person that he is. Kelvin has never had anything but my back. I know that I am incredible blessed to have a man who wants to see me win in my career. I also have talented sisters who all are at the top of their professions. They give me incredible advice when I need it. Lastly, my parents who of course think their children can do anything!
