We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For me, risk is a necessary part of growth—both personally and professionally. I always ask myself, “What’s the worst that can happen?” and if I can live with the worst-case scenario, then the potential reward makes the risk worth taking.

Starting WellCapped was a significant leap of faith, especially because we are building a brand new category from scratch, wig rentals. I was working on WellCapped part-time in 2023, and we had just been accepted into Techstars which was a huge opportunity. I had been contemplating on leaving my corporate job for awhile but honestly the idea of leaving a stable job was scary! It wasn’t until I was unexpectedly laid off the week after the Techstars announcement (crazy timing right?) that I realized this was the sign I had been asking for. That’s when I decided to take the leap and dedicate myself to WellCapped full-time. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made & I am so grateful to have a job that I absolutely love.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
WellCapped is a subscription-based luxury wig rental service designed to give consumers access to high-quality, luxury wigs without the financial burden of ownership. I’m incredibly proud of how we’ve managed to create a new category but more importantly that we are able to provide access to luxury wigs at a affordable price.

I’m super excited to debut our new Pro Stylist Affiliate Program which allows customers to have their wigs styled by professional salon owners who may not have their own inventory on hand. We love to support our local stylists and give our customers a more elevated, personal experience rather than the typical online experience. Additionally, we’re expanding our offerings soon with a special surprise – stay tuned!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are actually so many different sides to ATL that a week might not be long enough, LOL! I am big on incorporating some type of fitness in my week so we would definitely attend a SoulCycle, pilates or a HIIT class. After class, we would head to the eastside beltline for a quick brunch and walk off the extra calories we just ate. I absolutely love sushi so for dinner, we would head to Eight Sushi Lounge in West Midtown for their tuna crisp appetizer and famous lychee martinis! After dinner, we would take a 5 min walk over to Rock Steady and head upstairs to vibe all night to afrobeats and of course Atlanta classics (I always request Jeezy!). Lastly, you can’t complete a trip to Atlanta without going to Waffle House — 1 All Star Special with smothered hashbrowns and extra WH Sauce please 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God – I would be nothing without him literally.
