We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTisha Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaTisha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Whenever I’m considering a risk, I need to know that there is a reward associated with it. It’s never wise to jump out risk your career, finances, or time on something that won’t be beneficial to you or the community that you serve.

Taking a risk is honestly the reason that I own and operate a dance studio.today. I’ve taken major risks with the investment of my business as well as time away from family. It has helped me to be able to operate my business full time and reach more young dancers in my community.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been a lover of dance since the day I was born. I’ve always been involved in dance, studio, and found my love for HBCU marching bands in high school. I am a proud graduate of Druid Hills High School in Atlanta, Ga and had my heart set on moving to North Carolina to expand my knowledge and experience of dance while pursuing a degree.

Upon completing my Bachelors in Psychology and Masters in Adult Education, I decides to add a new dance studio to Greensboro, NC. A studio with a holistic philosophy willing to invest in not only the dancer, but the dancer as a young lady or man. My company doesn’t only focus on dance, we do community service projects, we’ve adopted a highway in our city to keep our neighborhoods clean, and we bring bring in licensed professionals to teach our younger dancers about their bodies, how they change, and how to take care of themselves.

The name of my studio is EducateDancer (pronounced Educated Dancer) because I want dancers to understand that it is possible to be a lawyer and a dancer, a cosmetologist and a dancer, a dentist and a dancer. I want to encourage high scholastic efforts and reward dancers for expanding their knowledge within academics. This sets my dance studio a part from a lot of other studios and it’s simply who I am and what I bring to my organization.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The one thing I love about Greensboro, NC is the amount of small owned businesses we have here! So a fun girls day itinerary would go like this for me.

Brunch at Cille & Scoe
Head over to Marjae’s Wine Bar for some tequila flights and vibes.
Next we would visit Strike & Flame to do our very own candle making.
After candle making we head over to Kneaded by Kani for the ultimate facials and end our day going into night with dinner at the luxurious First Class Luxury Lounge.

All small owned businesses here in Greensboro. This would be a top tier girls day!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to mention two people and one organization. My husband is truly the backbone behind how I am able to be an amazing mother and grow my business. We have two children ages 5 and 1 and this journey can not be done alone. So I thank God for my husband everyday.

Another person I could not tell my story without mentioning is my mother.. My mother is the voice of reason behind every decision, every gut feeling, every wrong and right move, she is always going to give it to me straight whether I want to hear it or not, and I respect that.

Finally, the organization that truly developed my leadership skills, the Blue & Gold Marching Machine of North Carolina A&T State University. As a dancer with Golden Delight throughout college, I was faced with many lessons about teamwork, leading my peers, pushing through hard times, dancing through the pain, growing my communication skills, and so much more. This organization is instrumental in how I operate and run my business.
