We had the good fortune of connecting with Lashia Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lashia, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson I have learned in business is that it is very hard work. Some days you may get a lot of sales and on other days you may get none. I have learned that you cannot build a million-dollar business overnight. Many people get into business and expect to just take off right away, but it does not work that way. You have to really put in the work, get your business out there and most of all do not be scared to take a chance. But I have learned to keep going and to keep advertising my business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Besides my boutique I am a Quality Coordinator at Carters. My career just started really taking off and I could not be happier. I am about to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and I am hoping to take my career to the next level with that. It has not been an easy journey for me, especially with trying to work full time, run a boutique and go to school. I wanted to give up so many times this last semester, but I kept my head up and kept going. I overcame a lot of challenges by praying, I prayed for peace, understanding and guidance because I felt like I almost lost my way. I have learned to never give up, because you just don’t know when your time to shine will come. I want the world to know that Meandras Kloset is not just an ordinary boutique, my brand is for an everyday average woman. A woman who has worked hard all week and wants to wine down or even go out with her girls. People ask me where the name of my boutique came from, and it is actually my middle name. I named it that because I have always been a girl who liked to shop. And I love to wear almost everything from a chill day to maybe going to the club.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say I would take them to Atlanta to enjoy the city life since I am a country girl but love to get away. We would start off with brunch at Henry’s Midtown Tavern, where they have the best mimosa and perfect view outside on the deck. I would visit the birth home of Martin Luther King Jr because knowing history is something I love to learn about. As the evening starts to set, I would take her to The Cigar Bar in Dekalb County where they have the best lamb chops money can buy. There we would order Margaritas all night which is my favorite alcohol beverage. The best place I would tell anybody to visit to have a good time would be Las Vegas. That is literally a city that does not sleep and will show you the time of your life. And they have to make sure they check out the Hoover Dam.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my mom and my grandma who just recently passed this year in March. Without these two I would not be the woman I am today. They are my biggest fans and always bought an item from me without asking for a discount. There is nothing like family and I would have to say that many people told me strangers would be my biggest supporters, but a lot of family has supported me throughout this whole process. And I cannot forget about my friends who have purchased things from me and even strangers from different state. The support has been coming from all over and I am truly grateful.
