We had the good fortune of connecting with Helen Choi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always had a passion for business and people. I knew I was destined for greatness because my parents always spoke into my life. Due to the fact that I have a passion for people and their ability to attain success, I started not just my Barber College, but several other businesses as well. All of my business lead to some form of “impact and change” to empower others to achieve
success.

What should our readers know about your work?
I tell many people that ask me how I got where I am that it took a lot of hard work and a willingness to do what others choose NOT to do. I started my career working as early as 4 am each morning, and sometimes pulling all-nighters due to the demand for my services. I was taught to always strive for excellence in everything I do. Due to my work ethic and determination to help others become
better versions of themselves, I feel it is my duty to keep striving for greater heights so those behind me will be compelled to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them shopping downtown Chicago to a few of my favorite spots on the Magnificent Mile on Michigan Avenue. Once we’re done shopping, I’d take them to my favorite eatery, Steak 48 Restaurant.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give kudos to my friend and brother, Virgil in ATLANTA who owns the top restaurant in Atlanta (Lennox). All the celebrities and professionals go there when they want a poised and chilled atmosphere.
