We had the good fortune of connecting with LAQUITA COLEMAN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LAQUITA, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process in starting my own business was a little scary at first, but being the person I am, that likes to planning things, whether it was a birthday party, backyard barbeque, or a weddings, my thought was that i could help people create a day that would be most memorable and on the fact that i like to help people put on events without breaking their pockets, I felt like it would be fun and intriguing working while meeting new people on a daily basis.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Event Planner. It started back in 2003, when I was trying to plan my first marriage. I wanted a dream wedding, I searched for planners, but prices were to costly, so I figured I could adventure out and plan my own. Even though it was rough, I enjoyed every moment of it, and from there I knew I wanted to make it into hobby, as time went by, I was helping people not for a charge, but I would tell them to just buy me a steak dinner, or give me a love offering.. then as time went on, and I got the hang of it a little, I started adding a small price added my bestfriend to help, then I started adding on to the type of event I would do. I added birthday parties, banquets, corporate events; etc. As I fully equipped my self with knowledge and hands own, I was ready to take on the world. That’s when things got real for me. My business grew, my clientele grew, and needed more help, my bestfriend became co owner and during this time we have hired 7 plus employees. Every weekend we are booked and blessed.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in the city would be Uptown, which is located in the downtown area of Birmingham. I also like to bowl and dance.
