We had the good fortune of connecting with Lance DeVinci and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lance, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by life and all its aspects. From the way the wind blows to vices within the community. I had always been an observant individual growing up, not really saying much, but paying attention to everything. These same observations is what influences my art, as well as the life I live/go through.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Nothing real in life is ever easy. If it feels easy it’s because we already endured the hard part. Most recently I graduated from college, which has to be my proudest moment in my life so far. College was the one thing I felt was my biggest roadblock when I dedicated my life to the music. I’m not the only one delivering the message, but I feel that the realness of what life truly is and about that I put within my music is what separates me from what the norm is for a “rapper” nowadays. Human music, life music, soul music; is what I’d categorize it as. No knock on other artist who’s making it work for themselves, but I believe with something as powerful as music, it should be used to spread something more meaningful. Only few are chosen though.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe in the saying that it takes a village. I owe where I am to everyone who’s ever played a part in my growth during my career so far. I feel I’m forever in debt to my big brother though. Him being a person who never made me believe I couldn’t do anything I wanted. From influence from his own music journey to just the life game and lessons he gave to me since a youth, the instilled confidence has definitely brought me a long way.
