Meet Lamar Clay | Auto Headlight Restoration and Detailing Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lamar Clay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lamar, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well my thought process behind starting my own business started as a young child. I’ve always imagined running some type of operation. Rather big or small. I like the fact of everyone playing a role to get something done. That intrigued me. Still does even more today. Not to mention my parents were both entrepreneurs. So growing up I witnessed my parents work for a company then later work as entrepreneurs so I saw the difference. Therefore I told myself one day I’ll own a company or help run one with someone. I didn’t know what I’ll be doing. I just knew I wanted to own a company. Another thing…no disrespect but I hated the fact of working for someone. The workforce treat you like trash in my eyes. People are underpaid. You can’t get time off when you want to. Your there for hours. I just couldn’t get jig with it. Then I started figuring out how much money I was helping the company I was working for make. The numbers were astronomical. My paycheck was peanuts compared to how much the company was making off me and I only get 2 weeks off vacation time once a year. So I told myself if I can do that for them, I can do this for myself. So that’s how that popped off. It was on from then. My whole mindset is entrepreneurship.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets my business apart from others is the creativity that we bring to the table. We use graffiti and certain color schemes to separate us from other competitors. We also provide additional services that most businesses in our field would not include which would be a huge perk for competition if they did the same but instead issa huge perk for us. Lol. To get where we are today indeed took hard work and dedication. Definitely wasn’t an overnight process. You have to know within your self that you will make it. Other people will not see it. Pray for strength during tough times. Pray the Lord sends the right people in your life to help fulfill your destiny. It will make the road smoother. Take it from a guy whose done it and continues to do it on a daily basis. Oh it don’t stop! You have to P.U.S.H. (Pray Until Something Happens). But also faith without work is dead. So not only pray but put some work behind it as well. I took a-lot of loses, people doubted me, hated, but they were all valuable lessons learned. So I’m thankful of those. I want the world to know that everything that I have accomplished and will accomplish first started off as a thought. Then I put it in motion. It’s like Magic. You possess the power of a magic.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots in the city would probably be at a cookout that one of my Potna’s or family member is hosting. People really can come chill at my carwash when they come in the city. It’s 8 minutes from the airport, meet new people, food truck is there on the weekends, good vibes, what more can you ask for?? Lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Man now when it comes to the Shoutouts first and foremost I shout out God Almighty! With God all things are possible without a doubt! He is who aligned all the people in (my) your path to help you get to that level. Shout out to my wife who have been a huge support in my journey of entrepreneurship. Shout to my Ace….Coach TJ Hill (Teej McGeej). He went on this journey with me when I decided to leap out on faith and start my own business. His exact words was “bra I got you.” Man he been riding with me ever since. Those type of people are special gifts from heaven and is a reminder of how powerful God is when he has a calling on your life. He places special people in your circle to help fulfill your assignment God has instructed you to do. Also I will like to Shoutout my brothers and sisters. I love y’all to death! Shout out to my parents! Where would I be without you guys? I love y’all. Shout out to my cousins in Chicago, Aunts and Uncle’s I love y’all too. You all know y’all have a special place in my heart! All my close Potna’s y’all know who you are. Salute.
