We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakisha Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lakisha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk.. I think is one of the main reasons many of us never even Try, Or the reason we just put a toe in the water knowing damn well all we want to do is learn to swim. I can openly say that risk that has been my biggest bully these past few years, especially when it came to starting my business. There were so many risks, the biggest seeming to be whether or not to attach my face to my brand… it’s crazy because for whatever reason, I actually sat and listened to people telling me not to put my face on my website because it may drive away white buyers, local haters etc… and in a panic, I didn’t. I hid behind the business name Shop Anonyme for 4 years. 2022 made me realize a lot, with almost losing my life to Covid Pneumonia, I realized that I am worthy of all things. I am coming from behind the name and stepping out as my best self. TheLaKisha Renee is the brand, I’m taking all the risks this go round!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is the same thing that sets you apart. No one else can be ME or you and that’s beautiful enough for me. The one thing I am adapting is being happy with self, what self is doing, has done and will do. I dont compare that to anything else. I am most proud of simply healing, continuously healing from all the past hurt, it wasn’t until then that I started dreaming my gifts and really stepping out there, I have always found myself in the work field of helping others, healing others. In doing so, you end up healing yourself, you find yourself telling your story to those that needed it rather than it turning into gossip, the people you come across start to feel your energy and invite you into spaces you never thought you’d be in… So now i’m here, speaking at functions, talking with people who thought they were too broken to keep on etc. None of this journey was easy, it’s actually easier to just remain a victim and hide behind all that was wrong. I wanted my life to have meaning, meaning that I set for myself. When its all said and done, I just want the world to know that once I found my voice, I used that mf!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Listen, we would definitely be planning a drunken brunch date at the crib, me and my girls we all cook a bomb breakfast spread, curate cocktails, have the place decorated, play music, sing loud and off key, we talk, cry then laugh & twerk! If we were to step out, We love cute restaurants with sexy drinks!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My daughter for giving me that third wind when I was young and struggling to provide for her, she gave me that undeniable hustle that runs through me today. Watching her grow into the woman she has, single handedly lets me know I’m A Beast out here!
My Best Friend and thats not said lightly, she is my rider, she supports me like I already made it, she’s the first to purchase a new item and remains a return customer, no discounts lol
Last but not least, the people I have been on projects with this year, they have really made me step up out of whatever I was in and let me shine. I can’t say thank you enough, because working this year has shown me my capabilities, people that seen something in me I was scared to see myself.
