We had the good fortune of connecting with Laila Alzerma and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laila, what principle do you value most?
I value/appreciate many things… I feel Autonomy is One of the most precious gifts in life. Also, Uplifting and sharing knowledge my community, those around me. Building, supporting others as they support me. Essentially, paying it forward.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Night Owl Studios Inc. is a boutique post house. I am a partner and chief financial officer. Our company supports artists helping them materialize there Dreams. We focus on the bigger picture when it comes to making art. Networking within the production industry was difficult at first and it took us a while to meet “the right people”. Maintaining the established relationships and putting out superior work has been easy because our editors are passionate and highly experienced, truly superior within their field.

I’m also a private accountant. I’m mostly working with small businesses, helping them establish healthy accounting practices. Part of what I also do is assess the efficiency/effectiveness of the business isolating the areas of improvement and coming up with solutions. I manage all of the financial aspects of the businesses from payroll, invoicing, reconciliation to tax compliance.

I believe a business can not be successful with proper accounting and book keeping practices. A person can’t really grasp where they are in business ie if it’s successful or not, until they see the numbers 🙂 .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I take her to Piedmont Park on a weekday we’d grab a smoothie, walk around the park and people watch.

We’d go to my office on Edgewood Ave get food from Mangos and check out some of the local spots like Slush, Joystick and Church.

Definitely check out the High Museum and grab a bite to eat at my favorite Indian restaurant on Edgewood Ave in which I do not know the name. I do know that it used to be located in little 5 points and it was called Bombay.

We’d have a spa day at JeJu definitely an all day thing.

We’d go to the cabin in Ella J for the Weekend fish, bbq, yoga, meditation and connecting to nature. Also Probably solicit exotic dancers to come through and entertain us lol jk 😉

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to Dedicate this Shoutout to my parents; Baba, Youma and Dez! I could not have hand picked better parents. Unconditional love, support, freedom, honesty etc… I am eternally grateful for them. They taught me that living my dream (whatever it may be) is absolutely achievable.
