We had the good fortune of connecting with LaDaesha Elliott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaDaesha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business stemmed from wanting to create that flexibility where I could be more accessible to my family, all while building that financial independence and have that opportunity to do what I love, which is creating.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an independent fashion designer. I currently provide different design services based on the needs of the client. Some of my work includes, creating tech packs, textile design, small quantity production, sample making etc… I am currently in collaboration with Make It Fit Alterations located in Atlanta, where I receive the bulk of my custom clientele.

I am also in the process of building my own brand:

Daesha Vu is an independent fashion design brand specializing in women’s couture and ready-to-wear with select menswear pieces.

The focus of the brand is on quality textiles, fabric details and experimental pattern making, putting an unusual spin on classic silhouettes with an edgy aesthetic.

Although creating a new brand has its challenges, what I am most excited about is seeing my skills develop throughout the process and not boxing myself in. Since the age of 7 I went from hand sewing clothes for my barbies out of my mother’s sheets to attending art school and becoming a well-rounded artist. I believe that it will be a successful outcome because I am always searching for new ways to level up.

The challenges I mainly face come from not having a background in business, therefore I am learning as I go through trial and error. Nevertheless, I don’t let that hinder me from doing what I have to do. I have learned to outsource and utilize my networking circle.

I want the world to know that my mission as a designer is to not only create beautiful clothing, but to inspire people to look good, feel good and feel confident in their own skin!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Although I am originally from Durham, North Carolina, I have lived in Atlanta for 18+ years now. With that being said, I feel I can give a solid review of places to visit within the city.

My top 3 favorite eatery spots include

Cafe Intermezzo-Avalon. I am a pasta girly, and my favorite dish is the Smoked Salmon Pasta! Not to mention their Triple Chocolate Torte dessert is to die for. It is a clean environment, intimate and the staff is very friendly. Plus, it sits in the center of a strip mall if you want to do some shopping before/after. My fiancé proposed to me at this location, so they will always get an A+ rating from me :)…

New Realm Brewing Co. I enjoy their hot wings and sweet potato fries. It is located off the beltline. If you want to enjoy bike riding, strolling in the park or shopping, that is available to you.

Botica. located in Buckhead : I enjoy their salmon and shrimp tacos

Top 3 Hangout Spots

Silverspot Cinema at the Battery Atlanta: Is a great spot if you want to enjoy fine dining and a movie experience all in one. it also has great stores to shop in the area.

Puttshack: Is a nice hang out spot where you eat and play golf.

The Painted Pin: Is an upscale bar where you can enjoy, bowling, food and drinks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to all my family, friends and supporters who continues to cheer me on as I grow in my journey. I am extremely grateful for those who have purchased anything from me or acknowledged my work. I am thankful for those individuals who has believed in me during my periods of doubt. I am blessed to have a great support group and as I grow, they will be a constant reminder of why I cannot stop doing what I do.
