Meet Lace The Hands” | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lace “The Hands” and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lace, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Growing up as a kid my work ethic was always passionate and rigorous in music. Most outsiders applaud the vibrations of our music as artists, musicians, producers etc but many do not think about the mental preparedness that it takes to sustain the hardships that come with artistry. Being an artist requires some big sacrifices and risk taking. By risk taking I’m referring to losing hours…sometimes days of sleep, spending money out of your pocket to be able to afford videographers, studio sessions, paying for features with other artists, song promotion through distribution companies and more. The emotional state as an artist is another strain that many may not feel could be much for us to deal with, but it most certainly is. Once passion and desire collide in artistry for us we tend to push ourselves harder, especially as independent artist working to become successful and nationally known or recognized for our talents. Therefore, most outsiders are unaware of the amount of sacrifice and risk taking that we endure.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud and excited about my growth in my career so far. What excites me is my ability to be versatile and unique in percussive nature which shows in every angle of my music and my life on a daily. Being a woman who plays drums, I can say that I have been able to get to where I am today professionally because of rhythm. Everything in life moves in a rhythm in my opinion and without it there would be no life and nor will time be able to maneuver properly. Life as an artist moves in syncopation which does not necessarily make it difficult for me, but it also does not make it a cake walk. The challenges that I have faced have allowed me to learn valuable lessons from each encounter which taught me more about myself and patience most importantly, and patience is often neglected by many. What I want the world to know about my story is simple. Faith without work is dead, trusting the process of your life is one of the scariest but most beautiful things to witness and endure. I want everyone to know that often times I felt and still feel like I could give up and yes it will continue to feel that way for as long as I remain an artist and musician. I want you to know that no matter what, success will provoke the quitter in you to accompany the test of any situation or risk on the table. However, your passion, your hard work and your prayers will take you to where you desire to be plus more when time deems it to be the right moment to receive. Never give up on yourself and even when you feel alone know that you are not because Lace can definitely relate and it is going to pay off for you soon!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We have a pretty dope downtown area here in Florence, SC. Jazz on Dragon consists of a nice bar setting with great tasting food, performances and drinks. Town Hall, El Gavé, Showtime Event Center has some of the dopest events such as comedy, musical, fashion and more to attend for your Friday and Saturday nights.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to God first and foremost. Without him there would be no existence of me! Secondly I have to give a shoutout to my family, my love (The Remidi) and my students of “Flip Squad” Drumline of Wilson High School.
