We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyra Joyner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyra, how do you think about risk?
I think of risk as stepping out on faith. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but it’s always worth a try. I feel in being a hairstylist you have to take risks in order to grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel like I just always think outside the box , I love to find ways to always put my own twist to something.

I’m excited about how I will shift the culture with just being apart of the beauty industry. How my career will be in the years to come, just really excited to see what God has planned for me.

When I was 15 I knew I wanted to do hair. I had an opportunity to go to cosmetology school in Highschool but it just wasn’t the right time. I was able to take a cosmetology class for a short time in Highschool and that’s where I taught myself how to braid. November 2020 I started school at Aveda. It was definitely an emotional and exciting journey. My favorite part was when I started taking clients and getting to meet so many different people. I graduated and then a few months later I got my cosmetology license. A month later I got my first salon job at Ulta Beauty. It was not easy getting to this moment but no matter what I stayed persistent. I had to take my written test for my license twice. Things didn’t happen as fast as I thought they would which at some point got frustrating. I went through a time after school where I even question if I was suppose to be even doing hair. I’ve learned that even through the unknown be persistent if it what you want.

What I want the world to know about my brand is that I’m working everyday to find ways to elevate. I have a passion for making people feel confident and show love through doing their hair and giving them an experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out God for getting me this far. My mom and grandma for rearing me into the person I am and the support from my boyfriend , friends and family!
