We had the good fortune of connecting with KXNG and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KXNG, what are you inspired by?
I look for inspiration everywhere. However there are 2 main things that inspire me to create my art.
1. Throughout my life I could always turn to music during difficult times. It always gave me a safe space to rest and recover and the next song would inspire me to pick myself up and get back in the ring. So that is definitely what I want to achieve with my art. Give people safety, warmth, and motivation to overcome whatever obstacles they’re facing in their lives.
2. I recently realized that what I look for in art is for it to shock me. Show me something I’ve never seen before. Take me somewhere I’ve never been before. I love experimentation and pushing the limits on what we believe to be possible. Nothing excites me quite like a unique idea. I have and will continue to commit my entire career to pushing the limits and innovating with every piece of work I create. One rule I created the moment I started making music that has kept me creative and versatile is this: “With every single project you open, do something you have never done before. Doesn’t matter how big or small.”
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Most important lessons I’ve learned so far:
-With every project you do do something you’ve never done before. Doesn’t matter how big or small. Consistently challenge yourself to evolve push beyond your comfort zone. Some might not turn out too great, however, the ones that do make a huge difference.
– With every piece that you create take all the time you need to make it as close to perfect as you can but once you say its done there is no going back. I hear my older work and I can pick out mistakes quite often. But I never regret any of it because I know during the time I made this was the best I could do with the time, resources, skills, and equipment I had available to me.
– The art you create is a tapestry of who you are in different pieces. your memories, emotions, beliefs, etc. When you create and present it to the world and it doesn’t resonate it simply means that you have to improve and refine how you present yourself to the world in that manner. So for that reason I always music that’s genuine to who I am and my main goal is to be proud of the work I’ve created when its all said and done.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Toronto is a vibrant, diverse, and beautiful city. The winters can be tough but the rest of the year especially the summer is amazing. I’d def take you to my favourite restaurant which is the Keg Mansion. The Keg is a very successful Canadian steakhouse chain and the mansion building was built the same year Canada was founded. The food, service, and atmosphere is amazing. The Royal Ontario Museum and Art Gallery of Ontario are must sees as well! We would definitely have to catch a Raptors game or a concert at Scotiabank Arena.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t shoutout my team at Loud Studios (@loudstudiosofficial). That is my home studio in Toronto. What we have been able to create together has been nothing short of incredible. We built the studio from the ground up and it has turned into a buzzing hub for artistic creativity and innovation. The community we have been able to create in the city has been inspiring to say the least. We are more than just a recording studio. Our goal is to unify the music scene in Toronto and cultivate and facilitate the creation of timeless art that will inspire billions now and forever. my teammates @beatsbyjstn @djuche and @prince_of_summer are incredible people and even more incredible musicians and with them on my team I simply cannot lose.
