We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Reese and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Wild Birth Partum Care with the hopes of improving birth outcomes for families of color. During the height of the quarantine, there was a need from those who were dedicated to accepting the call to action. Supporting families before, during, and after the pregnancy became necessary to help address the disparities amongst the BIPOC community. I knew of these issues prior to 2020 but I wasn’t caught ready but as things got increasingly worse, I couldn’t help but contribute. My business thrived but I realized that there was more that needed to be done. So I started a nonprofit to address the need for education and support and advocacy for teen parents. As my business grows, I hope to continue to help families and change the narrative for families of color.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Wild Birth Partum Care supports birthing individuals. We service all families including but not limited to BIPOC, LGBTQIA, Families engaged in surrogacy or adoption. This business encompasses all things to enrich a woman’s life by providing support, education, and services to meet her needs.

As a business, I believe the thing that sets me apart is my ability to empathize with clients while also bringing a sense of humor and personal connection to our relationship. I like to emphasize understanding the physiology of pregnancy. I want my clients to go into their birth space fully educated and able to advocate for themselves.

I am most proud of the opening of my pregnancy resource center, Wild Birth Partum Care Center, located in the heart of Jonesboro, GA at 166 S. Main St. We offer families comprehensive resources to make the most of their pregnancies. We offer childbirth, infant care, and breastfeeding education. Our goal is to provide every family that desires, the ability to have access to a doula. We are also a hub for doulas to commune with one another and to be able to find resources to amplify their own businesses.

Well, I have always had a twitch in my bones for being an entrepreneur. I have tried out a few things and I have a long list of ideas I am always ready to launch. That has been the most difficult part, discerning what is right and what is wrong. I experienced a lot of failures. A lot of trial and error. But I think that’s what makes a business flourish. Finding the ends and outs of what makes your business thrive. One of my biggest business tools is working by the MVP method, the most viable product. This is a method that helps determine which service or product will likely be most profitable and successful for client satisfaction. Sometimes, we have to learn that if a product or service isn’t being received well, we either need to go back to the drawing board and refine it or dump it altogether.

I’ve learned that there is no idea too big to achieve. If you want it, go for it and continue to work until you own it!!

My brand is inspired by the dedicated parents who always preserve. As I grow, I want to welcome any new doulas to reach me as we work to build this birth professional community. I want the world to know that the path I am on has always been in front of me. It has taken me some years to align with it but now that I am here, I am not letting up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, man!! Atlanta has some of the best sights to visit. First stop, Ponce City Market, where we can explore all sorts of spots in one!! My other favorite spot is The GoodzAtl, for some fried king crab legs over some cheese grits!!! We would visit Bowlero for a little bowling and maybe Puttshack for some mini golf!! We’d enjoy an art and plant fusion at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. For a late-night movie, we’d go to Starlight Drive-In movie theaters. And since we love movies so much, we might also see a feature at the brand new Silverspot Cinema in Battery Atlanta. We’d wrap up our trip at Blaqhaus ATL for some delicious foodie fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank all the families who trusted me to walk alongside them during their pregnancy journey. I want to thank my own mother, Quishun, my fiance, Randy, and my daughters, Kaela, Nikki, and Evelyn for supporting every crazy dream I had. They saw the vision!!!
