We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Maynor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystal, how do you think about risk?
I think risk is thinking about what is most important to you and what you are willing to do to for what matters most. Most people are fed the idea that the secret to a successful life is going to college and working hard in their chosen career. I have been taken down that path too. But the reality is that there is a lot of trouble in the world that we live in. Sometimes it takes losing everything or seeing just how fragile our world is to realize that there are things far more important than chasing a fleeting dream life. Now I realize, that I would rather not live at all than live a life without understanding our purpose in life or without the time to help other people who are suffering. It takes risk to think outside the box and live differently than everyone else. But some risks are worth everything even if it feels like you are leaving important things behind. All you realize after that is the real risk was spending so much time chasing what doesn’t truly matter.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a commercial mural artist. I specialize in large scale custom murals, hand- lettering and logos. My work includes design and installation for interior and exterior commercial projects. I think what sets me apart from other people is that I genuinely love design and coming up with creative ideas for a space. I also don’t limit myself to a certain style. I would rather find what works best for a particular space, whether that is detailed fine artwork or sleek abstract lines. I try to operate my business as honestly and fairly as possible. I think this has helped me to be successful and work with some really great people. It wasn’t always easy. Sometimes I’ve been afraid and every job seems to have new lesson to learn. But the more challenges that I have overcome, the easier the new challenges become.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This question is easy because I live in Peachtree City! There is great food, beautiful scenery and some really cool places to hang out. In a sample week, we would have to stop at Heirloom donuts in the Avenue for breakfast one day and grab some of their super moist coffee cake. For lunch we would eat at Super Chix but we would have to return later in the week because they have more than one sandwich that they must try! After, we will have to walk off those calories at one of the beautiful parks in Peachtree City. Actually, we could take a new trail every day and they would be equally impressed each day at how beautiful everything is. I would not let my friends leave without trying one of Bobby’s healthy recipes a La Tonique. If you’re not feeling well, just tell Bobby; he will have the right juice for you! If we need to get any work done or just relax, I am taking them to Foxtail coffee co., one of the most chill places around. And speaking of chill places, we will finish out the week at Line Creek Brewery. I may be a little partial but Line Creek Newnan has some of the best space to eat, relax and try some really good beer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Although the business operates under my name, my son is there working by my side the entire time. I couldn’t do it without him. He is so talented in so many areas that make our business successful. He is only 18 but he is a hard worker and he takes seriously each job that we do.
I have some really awesome friends who have opened their own businesses to make time for things that matter in their lives. I love Chelsea SanMartin’s, non- toxic candles at The Candle Collective, Autumn’s creative gifts at Blooming Ivys, Candi’s amazing cakes at Sweet Creations by Candi and Ariana’s custom jewelry and art at Brush & Blossom.
