We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristopher Everett Krava and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristopher Everett, why did you pursue a creative career?
Creativity has been the thread running through every chapter of my life, from cooking to music and designing digital experiences. After spending 30 years in the marketing and advertising world, I found myself sacrificing my physical well-being and contributing to a global culture that increasingly prioritizes digital connections over authentic, human ones. This disconnect was amplified by my cancer diagnosis, which became a wake-up call, forcing me to reassess my life and priorities.
In response, I leaned heavily into oil painting, committing myself to capturing intimate, human moments with live models. I wanted to create work that would not only reconnect me with what truly matters—family, personal well-being, and authenticity—but also offer others the chance to experience real, shared connection in an age where technology often isolates us. Through this new lens, I began exploring vulnerability, intimacy, and the beauty of human interaction.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is rooted in the desire to foster authentic human connection in a world that often feels disconnected. What sets me apart is my commitment to working with live models, embracing the intimacy and vulnerability they bring to each session. The paintings I create are collaborative, celebrating the beauty and complexity of human experiences. I am most excited by how my work has evolved since my cancer diagnosis, where I’ve dedicated myself to capturing real, emotional moments in time.
Recent years for me, have been full of intense self-discovery and growth. Overcoming life’s obstacles and facing the realities of mortality has filled me with an abundance of gratitude, resilience, and an eagerness for authentic connections. When viewing my paintings, I hope the audience finds a moment to explore vulnerability and intimacy, creating a space for personal reflection and a deeper connection with both themselves and others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d begin by introducing them to the cultural richness of Atlanta, from its diverse galleries—ranging from high-end spaces in Buckhead to the vibrant, emerging galleries on the west and east sides—to the dynamic music scene, which is at the heart of the city’s spirit. But what I love most about Atlanta, and perhaps what truly unites us, is the food. Atlanta is a melting pot, and no visit would be complete without exploring its incredible culinary offerings. It’s a true adventure. The best part of Atlanta? The people. Atlanta’s diverse communities create unique opportunities for connection, whether in a cozy bar or a bustling restaurant. The city’s energy thrives on shared moments of joy, art, and conversation.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to shoutout my family and friends, whose unwavering support has been my foundation. Their love and support, especially during the challenges of my cancer journey, has been an unbelievable gift. I’m also deeply grateful to the models I work with, each of whom shares their vulnerability and strength, and places a great deal of trust in me—allowing themselves to be vulnerable with me (a stranger, at first) in my studio, for my art. Their courage enriches my artistic practice, and I am truly honored by their willingness to collaborate in such intimate ways. Finally, I love the Atlanta artists community. I am continually inspired by our good nature, eagerness for connection, and our good works.
