We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristian Ayana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristian, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
It’s easy to be discouraged and want to give up on your dream. I’ve been there. However, when you know in your heart that you’re doing something that brings not only you, but others peace and happiness; then you don’t quit! Never quit at something you love doing. If starting your business boosts your mental& others; then that’s all that matters!

What should our readers know about your business?
Shvdes Of Beauty LLC. is an empowerment organization who works to uplift Girls & Boys, Women & Men who face mental issues like self-doubt caused by lack of confidence of their beauty/skin color. The road to success hasn’t been easy. Most things in life doesn’t come easy.My biggest “challenge” has been being rejected multiple times for business ventures, and hearing the words “no” or “sorry, but we have moved to other business applicants/partners” repeatedly. I try not to let that discourage me, but I am human. I am self-aware and know that rejection leads to frustration but also motivation. Though I don’t like hearing no, the lack of support and negligence pushes me to work harder! A professor once told me that ” if you quit, you will never win.” He was right! Staying persistent with your passion directs you to success, you will eventually be showered with “Yes.” The lesson I’ve learned is to keep my head up, stay strong, push through and never quit at something you love. I want the world to know that they’re beautiful, their skin is beautiful, they’re loved ; especially our black sisters & brothers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to a nice restaurant in Buckhead, then a night out at Buckhead Bars to drink & socialize.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m an artistic person who gains most of my motivation from art. One of the few people I’ve gained inspiration from is “ Maya Angelou”. Maya Angelou is a famous Black Poet who touched many lives including mine, during her inspiring career. Her poetry stems from her life experiences, each one having a powerful message. Most of her poetry expresses the power of confidence and how having confidence is important. She uses her voice to empower other Black Women who have been discriminated against, neglected, and even put to be inferior than other cultures. Like Maya Angelou, I empower Black Women and Men of all ages through my business. My shout out goes to the great Maya Angelou.
